Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEtoEo GILBERT A. VATERHOUSE, OF LOCKES MILLS, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURRV-COMBS.
Specification forming part of letters Patent No. 151,180, dated May 19, 1574; application filed November :22, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GILBERT A, WATER- i-IoUsE, of Lockes Mills, in the county of Oxford and State of Maine, have invented anew and valuable Improvement in Curry-Combs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed' drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representationA l provement:
In the annexed drawings, A represents the back or iframe of the comb, which is rectan gular in shape, and slotted, so as to leave parallel bars c a. This frame is rigidthat is to say, it is made of cast metalso as to afford the required degree of strength and stiffness. On this frame a tang, B', is formed, to which the wooden handle B is secured. G represents the toothed frame, which is made of sheet metal struck up, so that the teeth e are formed on narrow ribs, which are parallel to each other, and which are arranged at such distances apart as to receive snugly between them the bars a of the frame A, as shown in Fig. 2. This toothed frame C is connected to ears formed ou one end of the frame A by means of a pintle, c, which forms a hinge-joint. By means otl a turn-button, b, which passes through a slot ma-de through the toothed plate (l, this plate is secured down on frame A. The pintle c is removable for the purpose'of allowing the toothed plate C to be detached from the frame A when the teeth c are worn out.
It will be seen from the above description that, by having the handle formed on the rigid frame, and making the toothed frame detachable from it, the expense ot' a new comb will be saved, for the reason that the toothed plate or frame C is the only portion requiring renewal.
I am aware that curry-combs have been made before my invention with toothed plates hinged to slotted frames, and, therefore, I
make no broad claim to such contrivanee.
What I claim asnew, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isV
The detachable struckup sheetmetal toothed frame C, as described, hinged to the east-metal frame A, to which the handle is attached, said frame composed of space-bars a a and tang B', as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
GILBEETA. WATERHoUsE.
