Description

H. CARTWRIGHT.
DRAFT EQUALIZER. No.17o,zsz. Patented Nov 21a, 1 75.
NII-ED STATES.
PATENT QFFIGE. I
HIRAN OARTWRIGHT, or OWATONNA, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRAFTHEQUALIZERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,232, dated November 23, 1875; application filed October 23, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HIRAN GARTWRIGHT, of Owatonna, in the county of Steele and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Three-Horse Evener, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a top view of my improved evener, shown as applied to a tongue. Fig. 2 is a rear View of the same, the tongue being shown in section through the line 02 ac, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line y y, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved evener to equalize the draft among the horses, which shall be simple in construction and effective in operation.
The invention consists in the combination of the long lever, the short lever, the twopivoted plates, the two pairs of bars, the single bar, and the keeper with each other and with the tongue, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the tongue. B is the long lever, the inner end of which is pivoted to a metal plate, 0, by a bolt. To the middle part of the long lever B is pivoted the ends of twometallic bars, D, between the rear ends of which is pivoted the end of a metallic bar, E, the other end of which is pivoted to a lug formed upon required.
the edge of the plate G in the rear of the inner end of the long lever B. To the bar E is pivoted the ends of two metallic bars, F, several holes being formed in the bar E to receive the said pivot, so-that the point of attachment of the bars F may be adjusted as The two bars F pass beneath the keeper G, and their other ends are pivoted to the rear corner of the wide inner end of the plate H. To the outer part of the plate H is rigidly attached the inner end of the shortlever I. The rear end of the keeper Gris bolted to the tongue A. The forward end of the keeper G, is bolted, and the forward corner of the plate H and the rear part of the plate 0 are pivoted to the tongue A by a single bolt, as shown in Fig. 3.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the long lever B, the plate 0, the two bars D, the single bar E, the two bars F, the keeper Gr, the plate H, and the short lever I with each other and with the tongue A, substantially as herein shown and described.
HIRAN OARTWRIGHT.
