JESSE W. COMBS AND CHARLES W. COCHRAN, OF WICHI'I'A FALLS, TEXAS, ASSIGNORS.
OKLAHOMA.
T0 SUPERIOR AUTO {TACK 60., OF TUBLEY.
QUICK-ACTING JACK.
Application filed February 19, 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Jnssn W. Comics and CHARLES W. CooHRAN, citizens of the United States, residing at Wichita Falls, in the county of Wichita and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Quick-Acting Jack, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a quick acting jack having a compound leverage.
Another object of the invention is to provide a quick acting jack that will operate at various heights with equal efficiency.
Another object of the invention is to provide a quick acting ack that will raise to its full height with one operation of the lever.
A further object of the invention is to provide a quick action leverage means for a jack that will enable the raising of a car with a short hand lever, thus allowing the jack to be carried in a car tool box.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature which is very simple and practical, and can be manufactured and sold at a very nominal cost.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application. The invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, the various parts will be referred to by numbers, and,
Whereas, Figure l is a sectional side view. Figure 2 is a plain side View. Figure 3 is a plain top view.
The .device forming the subject matter of this invention comprises a base 1 having notched teeth arranged on one side thereof as illustrated. 9. is a housing arranged on the base 1. 8 is a standard attached to the housing 2, forming a part thereof. -1 is a pin arranged for association with the teeth of the base 1 acting as a locking device. 5 is a coil spring arranged on the pin 4-. 6 is a lifting lever attached to the standard 3 as illustrated at 7. The lifting lever 6 has a slot arranged therein as illustrated at 8. 9 is an operating lever. 10 is a pin attached to the operating lever 9 and extending through the slot 8 of the lifting lever 6. The operating lever 9 is attached to the Serial No. 620,075.
standard 3 as illustrated at 11. 12 is a lifting block attached to the lifting lever 6 as illustrated at 13. 1 1 is a clevis attached to the standard 3 as shown at. 11 and the lift ing block 12 as shown at 15. 16 is a ratchet lever attached to the housing 2 as illustrated at17. 18 is a lever having a jaw arranged thereon as illustrated at 19; said jaw de signed for association with the teeth on the ratchet lever 16.
The invention is operated in the following manner. By releasing the pin 1 from the teeth of the base 1, the housing 2 and the standard 3 may be raised or lowered to any desired position and held securely in place by said pin 4. When the lever 9 is raised to the position as illustrated in Figure 2 the jack is then placed under the car. The lever 9 is then pressed down to the position as illustrated in Figure 1. The jaw 19 on the lever 18 associates with the teeth on the ratchet lever 16 holding the jack securely in place at any desired elevation. To release the ratchet lever 16, press on the lever 9 and the lever 18. j
The structure shown and described pro vides a practical quick acting jack having a greater leverage power than other jacks heretofore used.
While it is believed from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent We desire to have it understood that we do not limit ourselves to what is herein shown and de scribed, and that such changes may be re sorted to when desired as fall withinthe scope of what is herein claimed.
What we claim is:
1. A quick acting jack of the character described comprising a standard, a lever centrally pivoted to said standard having a lifting block on one end thereof, an operating lever pivoted to said standard, having association with the first mentioned lever, ratchet locking means for holding said levers in various positions.
2. A. standard a lifting block having pivot connection with said standard, a slot-- tedlever pivoted to said lifting block and said standard, an operating lever pivoted to said standard, a pin attached to said operating lever having association with the slot in said slotted lever, ratchet means for holding the operating lever in any desired position.
3. In combination, an adjustable stand aid, a lifting bloekta clevis pivet-ally con nected to said lifting block and said standard, a lever centrally pivoted .to said standard having a longitudinal aperture in one end thereof and the end opposite said apertured end pivoted to said lifting block, an operating lever pivoted to said standard having a member disposed vtransversely thereof in association 1 with the longitudinal aperture in said apertured lever, a ratchet member pivoted to said standard, a ratchet operating" lever pivvoted to said operating lever in association with said ratchet member.
