- PATENT CHARLES J. RINDERKNEOHT, OF INDIANAOLS, NDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT EN MUSiChLAF TMRNERS.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. lhli, dated May 19.18711; application iiled February 28, 1874.
To all whom fit may concern:
Be it known that I, @traumas J. Riunite KNEGHT, of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State ot Indiana, have invented a new and Valuable Improvement in Devices for Turning Sheetldusic; and l do hereby declare that the tbllowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the saine, reference being had to the annexed drawings makin g a part ot' this specification, and to the letters and figures ot' reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation ot' a plan view ot' my device. Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views of the saine.
This invention has relation to means for turning the leaves of sheet-music 5 and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of a rotating springcatch and a series otl ingers, in combination with an operatin treadle, rope, and guide, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
rlhe object ot' the invention is to secure raf pidity and certainty of action, thereby avoiding awkward pauses in the execution, which are apt to confuse the performer and lessen the interest oi' the audience.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the musiostand, which may be a part of the frame of a piano or other nuisical instrument, to which the stand is usually connected. l) represents the lingers, which are placed under the leaves and operated to turn the same, an axisrod, O, being provided for the middle line of the sheets composing` the piece of music. These fingers are pivoted to a standard, E, secured to the frame A below and in line with axis-rod C. F represents a disk, pivoted to a standard, E, of about the same length as the standard E, to which the lingers are pivoted, but located a little to one side, so as not to be exactly in line, its pivot being eccentric or a little to the right of a prolongation of the pivot ot' the standard ll. rlhe disk is provided with a pulley, ai, over which passes the eperatin g-rope l) to a treadle or handle, c. By means of this rope the disk is turned from right to lett, the return move ment being effected by a springconnection, T, between the dish and its pivot or some rigid part oi' the stand. To the perimeter of the disk is attached a spring catch or pawl, d, which engages with the arms e ot' the lingers, and turns the same upon their pivot when the disk is rotated. An, upper catch or stop, a, is also provided, which serves to prevent th spring-catch d from passing one of the arms c, thereby engaging with the second or third and turning more than. one leat` at a time. Guide-pulleys H may be employed to carry the operating-rope wherever it may be most convenient to place the treadle or Tcandle.
"What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
rlhe eccentric rotating springcatch disk F, provided with a pulley, a, and the leattnrning iingers B, pivoted to standard E, in combination with rope b, guide H, and treadle c, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the above l have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES JGSEPH RlNDERKNEOHT. lVitnesses:
Giras. Gnomi, WILLIAM Donnino.
