To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS Bnoz, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Calumet, in the county of Houghton and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Music-Leaf Turners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in music leaf turners and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for turning the leaves of sheet music and is adapted to be used on pianos.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a number of leaf engaging members carried 'by a plurality of sleeves, of a frame provided with means for rotating the sleeves, and of means for moving the frame. l

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this' character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and efficient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.

The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the. accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters dengote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a front view of the invention.

As shown in these views the device is placed in a small casing 1 and it consists of an actuating shaft 2 suitably supported at one end of the casing and adapted to be driven by a large toothed wheel 3, suitably journaled in the lower part of the casing,

and engaging with a bevel gear 4 secured to said shaft. The toothed wheel is adapted to be rotated in either direction by a pair of operating members or levers 5, located on the opposite sides of the wheel. Each of these levers has one end hinged to the casing and a spring 6 tends to hold said lever in its uppermost position. Each-lever is provided with a spring controlled pawl l7 which engages the teeth of the wheel. These pawls are so arranged that when the levers are depressed the wheel will be rotated. These levers may be so arranged as to project from the casing so as to be operated by hand, or said levers may be suitably connected with foot pedals so that they may be operated by the foot.

The upper end of the shaft carries a pair of chain wheels S, spaced apart and adapted to engage a pair of chains 9. At the other end ofthe casing the chains pass over guide pulleys l0 and the ends of the chains are secured to a rectangular frame 11. manner when the shaft is rotated by the operating levers the chains will be caused to move the frame from one end of the casing to the other.

The frame has a plurality of horizontally extending wires 12 extending across the same and spaced apart and these wires are connected together by short pieces of wire 13 arranged to be out of alinement with each other. If desired these short pieces may be formed by looping the horizontally extending wires themselves.

These short pieces form engaging dogs, the purposes of which will be hereinafter fully described.

In this manner when the frame is moved the dogs coming in contact with the fingers will partially rotate the sleeves and the ingers are so arranged that when the frame moves in one direction it will rotate the sleeve approximately a half turn in one direction and when the frame is moved in the opposite direction it will rotate the sleeve back to its normal position.

A leaf engaging member 17 is suitably connected with the bottom of each sleeve. Each member is provided with a flexible outer end and has a pair of clamping,` jaws 1S secured thereto which are adapted to engage the leaves.

19 is the music support which is made of any desired shape and of any desired size. I prefer to hinge this support to the front of the case so that it may be swung outwardly to expose the interior of the casing. The support is provided with a pair of centrally arranged ears 20, each provided with a perforation to receive a bar 21 of wire or the like which is adapted to be placed over the junction of the leaves to hold the sheet music in place.

In carrying out my invention I secure the sheet of music or the book on the support and then connect each pair of jaws carried by the fingers 16 to each leaf. Then by operating the actuating levers the leaves may be turned in either direction.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novelfeatures of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the Copies of this patent may be obtained for combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

YVhat I claim is 1. A device of the class described comprising an actuating shaft, means for operating the same, a reciprocating frame connected with the shaft, engaging members on the frame arranged out of alinement with each other, a second shaft, a plurality of sleeves nested on said shaft, a pair of fingers carried by each sleeve and adapted to be engaged by said members and a leaf engaging member connected with each sleeve.
