EDWARD DUDLEY LEWIS, OF ELMIRA, NEW YORK.
WATER-COOLED LIQUID-FUEL'FEEDER FOR STOVES.
Application filed July 23,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD DUDLEY LEWIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elmira, in the county of Chemung and State of New York, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Water- Cooled Liquid-Fuel Feeders for Stoves; and
I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such 0 as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates toimprovements in stoves which consume liquid fuel, such as kerosene and gasoline, and the object of this invention, is to provide in a simple manner, for keeping the liquid fuel sufficiently cool to overcome the dangers now prevalent with stoves of this nature.
With the foregoing in view the invention resides in thenovel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawing, in which a Vertical sectional view partly in elevation is shown, of an oil stove embodying my invention.
In the drawing, 1 have illustrated one simple form of my invention, in connection with an oil stove embodying the usual oil supply tank 1 and horizontal oil feed pipe 2 for the burners 3, Instead of closing the free end of the pipe 2 by an ordinary screw cap in the usual manner, I pass a relatively small horizontal water pipe 4 in the horizontal portion of the pipe 2, through said open end and close the latter by a suitable stufiing box 5 which also serves to secure the pipe in place. The inner end of this pipe l is closed by a suitable plug or the like 6, while its outer end is turned upwardly as indicated 1923. Serial No. 653,361.
at 7 and communicates with a suitable water supply tank 8. This tank is preferably dis-' posed at the end of the stove opposite the fuel tank 1.
By keeping a quantity or water in the 5 tank 8, the pipe 4i will of course be filled, and the prevalence of the water in this pipe will prevent overheating of the oil in the feed pipe 2, and consequently the most serious danger common to stoves of the character 5 mentioned is overcome.
Within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous changes may be made and it will be obvious that my invention may be used in connection with any type of liquid fuel stove. r
I claim: I
in an oil stove, a plurality of burners'iiaving depending fuel intakes, a comparatively large horizontally disposed fuel supply pipe beneath and in communication with said intakes, the ends of said pipe extending through the opposite end-walls ofthestove, one ofsaid ends being upturned andthe' other end being open, a fuel container supported on the upturned portion of the pipe,
a horizontal water pipe extending into said fuel pipe through the open end of the latter, said water pipe extendingthroughout the length of the horizontal portion of the fuel pipe and having its outer end directed upwardly. a reserve water tank mounted on the upper end of said upwardly directed portion of the pipe and communicating, therewith, and a stuffing-box closing said open end of the fuel pipe and serving to secure. said water pipe in place.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto afiixed my signature.
EDW'ARD DUDLEY LE W'IS.
