To all whom t may concern.'

Be it known that I, Hui-arianne van RIJ- MENAM, manufacturer, a subject ot the Queen of the etherlands, residing at rihe Hague, Netherlands, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Assembling' Covers, of which the following is a specication.

The invention relates to assembling covers previously prepared in which loose folios, fourth parts oit a quire, catalogues, pieces of music and the like may be attached.

All these assembling covers have, however, one of the following disadvantages dependent on the manner in which they are constructed. In the tirst place it is often impossible to see each page entirely up to the back of the cover, for the reason that the cover exerts a clamping-action on the leaves. In this case the cover has to be kept open by hand in order to prevent the leaves 'from turning over.

Another disadvantage ot' other assembling covers consists in that the parts to be assembled are provided with holes, which injur 1 may be troublesome in particularly, when it is desired later on to loosen the pieces for having them bound together.

These disadvantages come in particular to the tore when loose pieces ot music are assembled in an assembling cover.

The book must e. g. be placed on the piano and then it is exceedingly ditlicult when each page can not be turned over at will and remains open, or when the portion of the page nearest to the back ot the book can not be seen entirely.

The invention has tor its object to provide an assembling-cover previously prepared in which the above mentioned disadvantages are entirely removed and in which consequently fourth parts of a quire may be attached in such a manner, that without injuring the parts the pieces inserted may be laid open entirely and retain this position.

The invention therefore consists of an assembling cover for loose pieces ot music, illustrations, periodicals. and the like in which the various pieces to be assembled may each be attached separately.

According to the invention the back ot the cover is shaped as a` case within which an elastic mass is contained and kept enclosed by means of a coveror closing-strip, while the pieces to be assembled are attached to the mass by means of pins or staples.

In these figures l is the back of the cover, which is here Jformed as a flat case. 2 are the leaves ot the cover. The case l is iilled with some solid but elastic mass 3 for which preferably cork is used. This cork is kept enclosed within the back by a covering strip l of linen or similar material. The manner in which these separate pieces are secured to the elastic mass, has also been shown in the drawing, 5 indicates the leat to be inserted, 6 are the staples by means of which the attachment is eected. The staples are pressed by hand into the cork and have sut'- ticient resisting capacity for holding the bound leaves securely. Although not necessary it is advisable to roughen the point S of the staples at the outer side by small notches or in any other suitable way (see Fig. 5). The trictional resistance is hereby increased when pulling out the sta-ples, while no injury of the leaves or the cork is caused. when a piece is removed trom the cover.

Thel entire width of the back may be used for inserting leaves, while further by suitable arrangement ot' the staples in two ad- Yiacent fourth parts of a quire, that is to say by placing the latter in staggered relation longitudinally, these fourth parts of a quire may he inserted very close to each other.

Instead of staples having two points, pins having a` single point or staples having more than two points may also be used. It is also possible to give the back of the cover another shape and to make other modifications within the scope of the invention.

Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patents is:

l. An assembling cover comprising a back portion a mass ot cork in said back portion: and means for securing said mass in said portion.

2. An assembling cover comprising a back portion; and an elastic material in said back portion adapted to removably receive staples.

3. An assembling cover having its back shaped as a case, a mass of cork contained in this case, a linen closing strip for keeping' the cork enclosed in the case, and staples 'for securing in the cork the pieces to be assembled.

Il. An assembling cover comprising a back 10 portion; an elastic material vin said back portion; cover leaves secured to said back portion; and means `for securing said material in said portion and secured to said leaves7 said elastic material being adapted 15 to removably receive staples.
