IMPROVEMENTIN CLAMPS FORS Specification forming part of Letters PatentNo skilled in the art to make and use the same.
The nature of my invention consists in a cylindrical orconical vertical pillar or socket formed on the'attachment, and socket or pillar formed on the slotted clamp, fitting thereon loosely, so that the slotted clamp maybe placed at any angular adjustment required by the screw-holes in the sewing-machine deck or table; and by making the pillar or socket in two parts, one of which is formed eccentrically to the other, I can securely hold the attachment in any angular adjustment to the .clamp.
I will now proceed to describe the mode of making and using said invention, referring to the drawing annexed, and letters of reference marked thereon.
The several figures are drawn of actual working size, and the same letters of reference apply to the same parts in the several figures.
Figure 1 shows a plan; Fig. 2, a vertical section on the line as a; in Fig. 1. Figs. 3 and 4 show a vertical section of modified form of the invention.
Upon the attachment A (shown in Figs. 1 and 2) I place a vert-1cal pillar, B. Around this pillar is placed a collar, 0, formed at the end of the slotted clamp D. The collar 0 is formed in two parts, one of which is a collar,
'0, which fits in a rim or circular cavity in the clamp D. This circular cavity is made eccentric to the hole in the collar 0, and the hole in the collar 0 is also made with equal eccentricity between the hole and the rim. maybe partly rotated in the cavity of the clamp D. When the collar 0 is so rotated as to make the hole in it coincide with the hole in the collar 0 in the clamp D, then the clamp D will fit loosely on the pillar D. WVhen the collar 0 is rotated by the lever E so as to make the holes in the collars O and G eccentrio to each other, the clamp securely holds in any angular adjustment in which they may be placed in the clamp D and attachment A.
In using the clamp, the collars G and O are on the pillar B of the attachment A. The attachment A- is then placed in the position in which it is desired to be used on the sewingmachine deck, and the clamp D placed so that the slot coincides with a screw-hole in the deck, when it is secured by a screw and washer. The collar C is then turned so that the hole in it becomes eccentric to the hole in the collar U and the collars pinch the pillar B, holding it correctly in position.
In the forms of this invention shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the pillar is formed on the clamp D, and of two parts, marked 0 and 0, one of which parts turns upon a bearin g eccentric to both itself andthe other, and,being introduced into the socket B when concentric with each other, are easily set in any an gular adjustment desired; and one of them being rotated by the handle E so as 'to become eccentric to the other, the attachment is held by the friction between the outer surface of the eccentric and the internal surface of the socket B.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure as such by Letters Patent, is-
A clamp for sewing-machine attachments, having a clamping mechanism formed with two eccentrics, as set forth and described.
