Description

w. A. M CARTNEY INDICATOR HOLDER Filed April 22 Sept. 2, 1924.
Patented Sept. 2, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. McoAR'rnEY, or TEXARKANA, rnxAs.
INDICATOR HOLDER.
Application filed April 22, 1924. Serial No. 708,297.
To all whom z't-may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. MCCART- NEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Texarkana, in the county of Bowie and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Indicator Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to indicator holders and more particularly to a device for supporting adjacent the room number of a hotel mail and key box a card bearing the name of the person occupying the room.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be very cheaply produced and which can be applied to the present construction of mail and key boxes without in any manner altering the same.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character in which the name bearing card may be readily inserted and removed and which at the same time prevents accidental loss of the name card.
These and other objects I attain by the construction shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view showing an indicator holder constructed in accordance with my invention and having an indicating card in position therein;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View therethrough Figure, 3 is a vertical sectional view through the pocket end of the holder;
Figure 4 is a plan of the blank employed in constructing the holder;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a card adapted for use in the holder.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the holder consists of an elon gated strip of metal 10 having upon one side thereof at one end of the side a flange 11 of greater length than the width of the plate 10. This flange has its end edge or that edge next adjacent the adjacent end edge of the plate 10 slightly spaced from the end edge of the plate.
In the construction of the device, the plate is first bent along the line 12 slightly spaced from that edge thereof bearing th ange 11 to provide an outstanding ledge'13. The
flange 11 is then bent upwardly in parallel relation to the plate 10 in alignment with the edge of this flange 10. This flange 11 is then bent over the upper edge of the plate 10 and downwardly upon the rear face of the plate 10 where it may be secured, as at 14, if desired. The portion of the plate 10 projecting beyond the end edge of the flange 11- is then bent upwardly against the flange 11 so that it closes one end of the space between the flange ll'and the plate 10 and forms an open-ended pocket adapted to receive one end of a name card 15. That portion of the plate 10 lying outwardly of this pocket is provided with openings 16 for the reception of securing elements for attaching I the plate and the outer face of the flange 11 When in its final position has stamped thereon or otherwise applied thereto indici'a 17 indicating the number of the box or the number of the room which it represents.
It will be seen that a card may have its end inserted in the pocket formed by the plate 10 and flange 11 and will rest upon the ledge 13 to be supported thereby, its engagement in the pocket preventing accidental displacement thereof. Cards 15 for insertion in the pocket are preferably made of such thickness that they slip easily into the pocket and have a snug fit therein so that by their engagement in the pocket they will resist displacement. These cards are preferably likewise provided with a vertical line indicating the depth of engagement in the pocket so that a guide is provided for the person applying the name to the card to assure that the entire name is exposed to view.
It will be obvious that the construction of this plate is capable of a considerable range of change and modification without materially departing from the spirit of my invention and I accordingly do not limit myself to such specific structure as hereinbefore set forth except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim 2- 1. In a sign holder of the type described, a rectangular plate adapted for attachment to a suitable support and provided upon its lower edge with an outstanding flange forming a ledge, a flange projecting upwardly in spaced parallel relation to the plate and from the outer edge of the flange at one end of the first named flange, the upper end of said flange extending over and engaging the upper edge of the plate.
2. In a sign holder of the type described, a rectangular plate adapted for attachment to a suitable support and provided upon its lower edge with an outstanding flange forming a ledge, a flange projecting upwardly in spaced parallel relation to the plate and from the outer edge of the flange at one end of the first named flange, the upper end of said flange extending over and engaging the upper edge of the plate, the end of said plate being bent outwardly and engaging against the last named flange to close one memo? end of the space between the flange and 15 plate.
3. The combination With a member formed to produce a pocket at one end thereof and alon one side a ledge for supporting a card, of a card adapted to snugly engage in said pocket and extend along the length of the plate and to be supported by the ledge, said card having formed thereon a line of demarkation inclicating the depth of said pocket. r
In testimony whereof I hereunto aifix my signature.
WILLIAM A. MQGARTNEY.
