Description

Sept. 2 1924. 1,507,161
v. F. DELMU HAIR CRIMPER File Feb. 29. 1924 fltbozueq Patented 2?., 1924.
' TATES HAIER CRIMPER.
Application filed February 29, 1924. Serial No. 698,006.
T0 all Iwhom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, VALENTINE F. DEL- MU, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair Crimpers, of which the following is a specification.
rlhe present invention relates to a hair crimper and has for its prime object to provide a device of this nature capable oi crimping or saving hair and particulary designed for use with bobbed hair.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hair pin of this character which due to its simple design in two parts may be economically constructed and although embodying a minimum amount of labor and machine worlr in its manufacture, at the same time is capable of operating in a sirnple and easy manner providing for the long and useful life of the several Darts of which the hair crimper is composee.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a hair crimper of this nature which may be readily engaged with or disengaged from the hair.
"W ith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description progresses7 the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described. and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a perspective view of the hair crimper embodying my invention showing the same in an open position.
Figure QJ is an elevation of the hair crimper showing the same in a closed position.
Figure 3 is a detail perspective of one end of one of the crimp bars, and
Figure 4C is a detail perspective of one end of the other crimper bar.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that l designates a substantially rectangular frame which is provided at one end with a U-shaped extension 2 and at its other end with a pair of apertured ears 3 through which passes a bolt a. A pair of crimp bars 5 and 6 are associated with the frame and these bars are of similar construction. Each bar is provided with an intermediate longitudinally extending V- shaped portion 7. These bars 5 and 6 are pivoted on t-he bolt 4 so as to extend longitudinally of the frame. The convex side of one V-shaped portion 7 is provided with a snap fastening element 8 while the concave side of the other V-shaped portion 'i' is provided with a snap fastening element 9.
In order for the crimp bars 5 and 6 to be separable, the space between the apertured ears 3 is slightly greater in width when bolted as at 4L, than the width of the U- shaped extension 2.
It is to be understood that the frame l and the bars 5 and 6 are preferably formed of some resilient material. hair are placed between the bars 5 and 6 when they are in an open position such as is shown in Figure l and the bars are then alined with each other so that the snap fastening elements 9 and 'l0 may be engaged. lThus the bars lie alongside of each other and may be pivoted so that their free ends are disposed in the U-shaped extension 2 and frictionally held therein thus preventing accidental separation of the bars 5 and 6. The strands of hair may also be passed around the side rails of the frame l. it
is, also, evident that the device may be used in other ways than that which l have outlined above. Numerous changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invent-ion as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new is:
l. A hair c-rimper of the class described including` a pair of bars pivotally associated with each other at adjacent ends and provided with longitudinally extending vshaped mind-portions one adapted to fit within the other. and means at the free ends of the bars for holding them together.
2. A crimper of the class described iucluding a frame, a pair of crimp bars pivotally mounted in the frame, each crimp bar provided with a longitudinally extending V-shaped mid-portion, one ii-shaped mid-portion adapted to be receivable within the other, and means associated with the bars for holding them alongside each other.
3. A crimper for the class described including a frame, a pair of crimp bars pivotally mounted in the frame, each crimp bar rlhe strands of provided With a longitudinally extending V- shaped mid-portion, 4one V-shztped portion adapted to be `receivable With-in the other, means associated With the bars for holding them alongside each other, said frame provided With a fU-shaped extension for reeeiving the free ends of the bars so .as to hold said bars frictionally in order that they may be disposed alongside of each other Within the frame. n
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
VALENTINE F. DELMU. Witnesses:
T. J. MoHN, MRS. T. J. MoHN.
