Description

Sept. 2 1924. 1,507,003
P. c. SCHAEFER DEVICE FOR STRETCHING THE ROOF OF A TENT Filed Feb. 11, 192 2 e/v' (15' Gide "cl:
Patented Sept. 2, 1924,
UNITED STATES PETER C. SCHAEFER, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
DEVICE FOR STRETCHING THE ROOF OF A TENT.
Application filed February 11, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER C. SCHAEFER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Stretching the Roof of a Tent, of which the following'is aspecification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a device for stretching the roof of a tent, and the object of the invention is the provision of a simple and efficient stretcher frame which can be quickly placed in position, and which will efficiently stretch the top of a tent.
With this and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more articularly pointed out' in the ap-- pended claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view of a tent with my device therein, for stretching the top of the tent, the tent being shown in conjunction with an automobile, as the tent with the stretcher device is admirably adapted for the use of campers or tourists, or the like.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the stretcher frame.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view of the tent and frame, showing particularly the pockets of the tent for supporting the stretcher frame.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the tent and 2 roof thereof; 3 is a suitable-flap or connection for assisting in closing the space between the tent and the automobile 4. Attached to the upper pore tion of the tent 1, and inside thereof, near the roof 2, are, preferably, four horizontal pockets 5, open at their ends, contiguous to the corners of the roof 2, and in each pocket 5 isremovably positioned an eye-bar 6 or a pin-barl', as the operator desires.
The stretcher frame comprises, preferably, two eye-bars 6 and two pin-bars 7. Threaded on the ends of each eye-bar 6 are caps 8 having integral eyes 9. Threaded on the ends of eachpin-bar 7 are caps 10 having Serial No. 535,819.
integral pins 11. The pins 11 extend through the eyes 9 when the stretcher frame is asdevice is easy to operate, and is eflicient in operation.
It is to be noted that the ends of all the bars are so constructed that they constitute an interlocking means as the pin-bars interlook into 'theeye-bars.
' I/Vhile I have described the preferred J embodiment of my invention, and have illustrated the same in the accompany ng drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which'this invention relates, during the extensive manufacture of the same and I,
therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
In a structure ofthe character described, the combination of a tent provided with side walls and a roof and strips about thetent and providing pockets at the junction of the side walls and roof, and a stretcher frame comprising bars in said pockets havingrtheir. ends extended beyond the ends of the pockets at the corners of the side walls,'caps in threaded engagement wlth the ends of certain of said bars and their outer-ends pro vided with eyes, and caps in threaded en gagement with the ends of the remaining bars having their outer ends provided with pin extensions fitting into the eyes of the first bars to releasably connect thebars in frame formingrelation to each other.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature. 1
PETER C. SCHAEFER.
