F i g. 3,
WITNESSES INVENTOR RosaMPeZers Patented Nov. 2 7, 1923.
UNITED ST TES IPA-TENT OFFICE.
Application filed October 11, 1922. Serial No. 593,878.
To all wkomitm concern:
Be it known t at I Rosa M. Pn'runs, a citizen of the United tates,'and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of .New
York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Head and Socket Fasteners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to head and socket fasteners.
In providing head and socket fasteners for clothing for stout people a great deal of difficulty 1s experiencedin roviding a fastener which does not open w on the cloth ng is subjected to strains. Fasteners that will not remain closed are objectionable.
The general object of this invention is the provision of a cheap, simple and eflicient head and socket fastener so constructed that when it is-closed it will remain so until it is opened by the wearer.
This object is accomplished by PI'OVldlDg a base plate having a head mounted thereon carrying lugs and forming a mating late having a socket shaped to receive the sad and ada ted to retain the head in position after it as been turned through an angle.
This and other objects of the invention will be more clearly understood from the following detailed description and accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a top plan View of the base l f p Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of the mating plate provided in conjunction wlththe base plate; 5
Figure 3 is a vertical section through the head and socket fastener, showing it after the plates have been forced together.
Referring tothe above-mentioned drawings, the invention includes a base plate 10 provided. with a plurality of openings 11 The openings 11 are provided so that the plate 10 may be sewed to the fabric. Intogral with thebase plate 10 and extending up ward from its center is a hollow shank-.12
carryin a head 13. Formed integraL-wvith the hea 13 are two projections 14 and 15 on opposite sides of the head'13.
A mating plate 16 havin a rim 17 integral therewith carries a soc et. 18. Slots 20 extending at' right angles to the height of the socket 18 are cut in its sides and the arms of a spring1 19 located inside the rim 17 extend into t ese slots, serving as a means for locking the head 13 in position in the socket. This spring member for locking the head in the socket is provided in a great many fasteners and is not considered new. Two notches 21 and 22 are also cut in the walls of the socket 18 and extend parallel to the height of the socket:-' The size of these notches is suflicient to allow the projections 14 and 15 on the head 13 to be moved through them. The mating plate 16 is provided with a number of openings 23 so that it may be sewed to the fabric;
In attaching the base plate 10 and the mating plate 16 to the edges of fabrics for connecting them together it would be neces sary in order to make use of the locking means to mount the base plate so that a line drawn through the projections 14 and 15 would be at right angles to a line drawn through the notches 21 and 22. When the plates are mounted in this manner, in order to connect them, one of the members must. be turned through an angle of by twisting the fabricto which it is connected. The head 13 is then inserted into the socket 18'. The fabric in regaining its normal position will rotate the head 13 through an angle of. 90 and the projections 14 and 15 engage the walls of the socket 18, looking the head in position. Thus it will be seen that a fastener provided with. locking means has been provided.
-I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departing from theflspirit of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
