Description

Aug 26, W240 LSQfiBZQ W. H. PIKE HAT HOLDER Filed April 16 1923 INVENTOR W/LFOPH Jf- PIKE ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 26, 19240 PATENT OFFICE.
WILFOZR-D H. PIKE, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
' m1 Hellman.
Application filed April 18, 1928. Serial No. 632,209.
7 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILFORD H. PIKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved hat rack for automobiles.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and efficient means for securely holding a hat in an automobile. Another object of my invention is to provide a hat rack which is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
Referrin to the drawing which forms a part of this specification- Fi ure 1. is a side view of my hat rack attac ed to an automobile top.
Fi re 2. is a top plan view of the holdin rame. r illigure 3. is a plan view of theadjusting Figure 4. is a front view of the fastening plate.
Figure 5. is a top plan view of the same. Figure 6. is a side view of a modified form of attaching my rack.
Referring more particularly to the drawing:the numeral 1 indicates an L-shaped fastening plate. This late is fastened to the automobile top bow y suitable screws 2 which pass thru the plate leg 3. The leg 3 may be laced either on to tom of t e bow as shown in igures 1 and 6. Flanges 4 project from the leg 5 of the fastenin plate. A holding frame 6 is pivoted to t e flanges 4. The holding frame 6 or on the bot-' is formed of a single piece of wire, comprising a hat holdin ring. 7, preferably substan- 40 tially elliptical 1n shape and a pair of substantially horizontal arms8 which have outwardly projecting ends 9 that extend into the flanges 4 thereby pivoting said holding frame to the fastening plate 1. On the lower edge of the arms 8 are formed a plurality of notches 10 which are adapted to receive a U-shaped adjusting link 11. The link 11 is pivoted to the flanges 4 by lugs 12. As the link 11 is moved rearwardly the hat holding ring 7 drops away from the automobile top {Ihe desired distance to accommodate various ats.
Havin described my invention I claim 1. A fiat rack comlprising1 a fastening plate, flanges on said p ate, a olding frame pivoted to said flanges, said holding frame comprising a hat ring, arms connectlng said ring to said flanges and provided with a plurality of notches, an ad usting link pivoted to said flan es and adapted to project into any one of t e said notches whereby the ring might be held in any one of a plurality of positionsv 2. A. hat rack comprising a fastening 05 plate, flanges on said plate, a holding frame pivoted to said flanges, said holding frame comprising a hat ring and rearwardly extendln horizontal arms, an adjusting link pivote to said flanges, said holding frame arms having a plurality of notches formed ihelgein, for the reception of said adjusting In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
WILFORD H. PIKE.
