'WIRE BooK Kommas L` Application meaauiyer, 1924i serrati Noir/295352:
To: all fwzontz't may concern:
Marshalltown, in the `county vof -Marsliall andy State of owa, have invented .certain new-r and usefulll improveine-nts-` in 1Wire'v Boek Holders; and l do hereby declare the following` to be affull', clear-and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates tobook holders, and has for one of its objects to improve and simplify the general construction of devices of this kind and to provide one which may be made entirely of wire and which shall be strong, durable and etlicient.
lith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a book holder constructed in accordance with my invention,
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the horizontal plane indicated by the line 2-2 of Figure 1, v
Figure 3 is a view in end elevation of the book holder,
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the vertical plane Aindicated by the line 1t of Figure 1,
Figure 5 is a detail sectional view taken on the vertical plane indicated by th-eline 5 5 of Figure 2, and
Figure 6 is a detail sectional view taken on the horizontal plane indicated by the line 6 6 of Figure 5.
The book holder may be made of wire of any suitable gage, and the various parts thereof may be secured together by solder or in any other suitable manner.
As shown in the drawings, the book holder comprises end pieces A of triangular formation, presenting vertical rear members 2 and upwardly and rearwardly inclined front members 3. The end pieces A are united by a bar 4 which is secured at its ends to the vertical members 2 near the lower terminals` thereof, and by bars 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 which are secured in relatively spaced relationV to the front members 3 and which in conjunction with said members constitute the front side B of the hook holder, The bars f1 and 5. are. locatedvinr thesame. horizontal plane.
Bars 111 extendffrom |the rear, `members`2 to and beyondthefrontmembers 3, they are located ,in-the plane of thefba'rsl and 5, and they areA securedto the members. 2 and;y 3. The. bars 4, 51andy llconstitute aA frame C wh-ichigiyestothelower portion of the bookr holder1 the. necessaryv strength.A andi rigidity, and the bars 11 prevent the rear member 2 and the front member 3 of each end piece A from having any relativ-e lateral movements. A bar 12 which extends from the bar 4 to beyond the bar 5, is secured to and adds strength and rigidity to these bars. Those portions of the bars 11 and 12 which extend forwardly beyond the bar 5, together with a bar 13 which is connected to the front ends of the bars 11 and 12 and with bars 14 which are secured to and between the bars 5 and 13, constitute a ledge or support D for theV lower edge of the book. The lower ends of the rear members 2V are bent upwardly and forwardly as at 15, and these portions 15 are secured at their upper ends to the bars 11. The lower ends of the front members 3 are bent upwardly and forwardly as at `16 and thence rearwardly and downwardly as at 17, the lower ends of the portions 17 being secured to the bars 11 adjacent the front ends thereof. The portions 15 constitute supports for the rear ends of the bars 11 and the portions 16 and 17 constitute supports for the front ends of these bars 11.- A support 16a similar to the supports 16 is provided for the front end of the bar 12.
yThe book which is adapted to be mounted upon the holder with its lower edge resting upon thek ledge D and its back resting against the front side B, is adapted-to be held opened by a clip 18 which is pivoted to the bar 13 as at 19 and which is provided with upwardly and inwardly extending and flared arms 20. At their upper ends, the arms 20 are provided with sockets 21 in which are secured book leaf engaging members 22 preferably made of cork. The clip 18 is provided with a downwardly extending thumb piece 23. A spring 24; is employed for the purpose of yieldingly holding the clip 18 in book contacting position. The clip is secured to the bar 13 by a U-shaped bracket'25, and the spring 24 is secured at one end to the bracket 25 rearwardly of the pivot 19 and contacts at its free end with the inner side of the thumb piece 23. lVhen it is desired to turn a leaf of the book it is lll) only necessary to press rearwardly on the thumb piece 23. This swings theclip outwardly away from the book, and When the clip is in this position a leaf or leaves of the book may be readily turned. After the leaf or leaves of the book have been turned, the clip 18 is released, and thereupon the spring 24 return the clip into its normal book contacting position. v
From the foregoingdescription, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction of the book holder will be readily apparent, and While I have described the preferred construction of the book holder, 1I desire to have it understood that the device shown is inerely illustrative and that-such changes may be made When desired' as are Within the scope of the invention as claimed.
vWhat is claimed is A Wire book holder comprising end pieces having vertical rear members and downwardly and forwardlyv inclined front members, said members being provided at their lower ends with upwardly and forwardly curved portions, bars secured to said front members, and a frame secured to the front and rear members and to the ends of said,
portions, said frame extending beyond said front members to provide a rest for the lower edge of the book.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature.
