SKYLIGHT STRUCTURE.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Go'r'rrnn) (l. LAWSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skylight Structures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to skylight struc ture and is concerned particularly with the construction of a new and improved chair.
One object of the invention is to construct a chair for a skylight structure composed of sheet metal and adapted to support a glass carrying bed member.
Another object of the invention is to construct a sheet metal chair having struck out portions for providing a relatively wide glass supporting bed.
Another object is to provide a substantially U-shaped sheet metal chair having projections for supporting a glass carrying bed, and for carrying resilient, glass securing means.
Another object is to provide a simple, inexpensive yet satisfactory chair for skylight structure.
Other objects will be pointed out hereinafter.
In the drawings attached to and forming a part of this specification:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a skylight structure comprising my new and improved chair, and
Figs. 2 and 3 are respectively end and side elevations of the improved chair.
In the drawings in which is illustrated one embodiment of my invention, 1 designates a chair suitably mounted in a channel, 2, and serving to support a glass carrying bed, 3, upon which is carried two or more fibrous packing strips, 4, with glass plates, 5, therebetween, the metal cap, 6, resting on the plates or strips and the whole structure being held in assembled relation as by bolt, 7, and nut, 8.

From one side of the chair a portion 12 is struck inwardly to provide means for retaining, in assembled relation with the chair, a member 7, adapted to retain the glass plates 5 on the bed 3. In the closed end or bottom portion 14, of the chair 1, is formed an opening 15 through which the member 7, may project. A spring 16, preferably surrounds member '4', and is suitably shaped to bear against the enlarged head of this member at one end, and against the bottom portion let, of the chair at the other end.
In assembling the chair unit comprising the chair 1, bolts 7, and spring 16, the spring is first placed around the bolt and the bolt inserted through opening 15. Then portion 12 is bent up to substantially the position shown in the drawings and thus prevents disassembly of the chair, bolt and spring.
Although I have disclosed one embodiment of my invention in some detail, I do not wish to be limited either to the specific details illustrated, nor to the combination with my improved chair of the particular channel, bed and other parts of the structure illustrated. While these parts are adapted to use with this form of chair, other forms could likewise be used therewith.
The scope of my invention is defined in what is claimed.
What is claimed is:
1. A sheet metal chair substantially U- shaped in transverse cross section having bed supporting portions struck outwardly from each side thereof.
2. A sheet metal chair substantially U shaped in cross section having bed supporting portions struck outwardly from each side thereof and also having a bolt supporting portion struck inwardly from one side thereof.
3. In skylight structure, in combination, a sheet metal chair having outstanding bed supporting projections, an inwardly extending projection and a threaded member projecting through the chair between the bed supporting projections and maintained in assembled relation with the said chair by the said inwardly extending projection.
