UNITED STATES" PATENT OEEIGE.
LEANDER BECKER, 0F YORK, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN LOTHESWRINGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,514, dated May 5,1874; application filed February 27, 1874. l
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEANDER BECKER, of York, in the county of York and State of Penn' sylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ClothesWringers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descriptionof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference .being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an end view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view, and Fig. is a detail view. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectionalV view through the frame-castings at one end of the machine.
This invention has relation to clotheswring ers 5 and consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter specifically described and claimed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A B designate, respectively, the upper and lower wringing-rolls, made of any suitable material. C G' designate the shafts of said rolls, journaled to the boxes DD', and passing through plates E E, arranged between said boxes and the ends of thevrolls, and provided with double segmental flanges l d, projecting inwardly from the outer edges of the plates, coinciding with the cylindrical shape of the rolls, and forming fenders or guards, to prevent the clothes from being dragged down between theends of the rolls and the plates. The shaft C' is extended at one end, to receive a crank for operating the rolls. F is a transverse rod, for supportingthe clothes and guiding them from the rolls. Said rod is supported by ex tensions of the box D', as shown. G G designate the -castings constituting the main frame of the wringer. e e1 represent arms depending from the frame-castings, to embrace the edge of the wash tub or box of a washingina chine, to which the wringer is secured by means of a thumb screw, c2, arranged as shown. To the uprights F1 of the frame-castL ings are hinged, about .midway between the depending arms e el and the top of said uprights, the arms F2. The arms FIJ and castings G are, respectively, pivoted to the boxes D D', so that the frame may be adjusted laterally, to adapt the wringer to tubs of different sizes, or washing-machines of different shapes and sizes. H H designate curved slots in the plates E E, through which pass the ends of the shaft of the upper roller, so arranged in order that said roller may adjust itself to the bulk of the clothes passing under it. The desired pressure is exerted upon said adjustable 'roll by means of the india-rubber springs I, interposed between the upper extensions f of the arms F2 and the uprightsFl, as shown.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination, with the castings G, having the pendants c el and upright F1, of the arms F2, pivoted to said uprights, and resting on or attached to the boxes D, andthe springs I, interposed between the pivoted arms and uprights, substantially as described and shown.
2. Incombination with the arms F2, provided with pivots, as shown, the castings G and journal-boxes D D', as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of February, 1874.
LEANDER BECKER.
