Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. SIAUL- DING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gold Bar, in the county of Snohomish and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Carriers, of which the following is a specication.

In carrying out the present invention it is my purpose to provide a carrier 'that is primarily but not specifically adapted for use in the carrying of milk bottles.

The primary object of my invention resides in the provision of such a carrier that is extremely simple in construction and one that may be manufactured and marketed at a relatively small cost, the article embracing at the same time the desired features of eiliciency and durability the nature of the same being such as to be employed in conjunction with bottles of varying diameters of necks.

A still further object of this invention is to provide such a carrier that may be ap* plied to or removed from a bottle in a simple and expeditious. manner, the nature of this invention being such that when once applied the same is not liable to become accidentally displaced with Vrespect to the bottle to which it is attached.

With the above and other object-s in view as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangementl of parts brought out in the following detailed description, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

N ow having particular reference to the drawing there is shown in Figure l a milk bottle 5 vwherein the neck portion thereof is formed at its or beaded portion 6 for providing a shoulder. My carrier includes a bail like member made from a single length of wire and designated 7 the opposite ends of this bail member terminating in laterally extending eye portions 8.

a pair of spring aw members 9 which jaw members are made from a single length of wire the ends thereof being welded or soldered together. These jaw members 9 are of a curvalinear form as more clearly shown in the perspective view Fig. 2 the portions of the wire forming these jaw members being bent downwardly at opposite sides as indicated at 10, the lower ends of these downwardly benit portions at opposite sides of the jaws being joined together by a looped portion 11.

It is obvious th'at the eyelet ends 8 of said bail 7 surround the downwardly extending portions l0 at opposite sides of the jaw and serve as means for closing these jaws 9 upon the neck of the bottle when the bail is raised to the position shown in both of the figures. lWhen it is desired to release the carrier from the bottle the bail 7 is passed downwardly upon the portions lO whereupon the jaws will manifestly spring to an open position. f

The operation as well as the advantages of a carrier of this type will be at once apparent toi those skilled in the art and even though I have herein set forth the most practical embodiment of the invention with which I am at this present time familiar it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

aving thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. In an article of the character described, a single length of wire bent to form a pair of spring jaw members that are connected together by downwardly extending leg portions, and a bail member formed at its lower end with eyes adapted for surrounding said leg portions and to be freely slidable thereon.

In a carrier for milk bottles, a single length of wire bent to provide a pair of jaw members joined together at their opposite ends by downwardly extending pairs of legs, loop portions connecting the legs at the bottom ends and serving as a means for normally separating said jaw members, a bail formed at its opposite ends with eye portions through which extend said pair of legs and serving as a means for closing the jaws when said bail is raised.
