To all 'whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVID KNOPFLER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the cityof New York, borough Vof Manhattan, in the countyy and State of New York, have invented a new Improved Useful Cap, of which the following is a specifi-v cation.

My invention relates to improvements in caps and the objects in my improvements are- J First-to provide a capthat can beadjusted to suit different conditions of the weather.

Second-to provide a cap that can be easily manufactured and consequently at a comparatively low cost.

Third to provide a cap that is reversible from the front to the back and vice versa. l

I obtain these objects by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

Figure-.(1) is arfront or back view of the cap with the naps folded upwardly.

Figure (2) is a view similar to Figure (1), but with the chin iiaps folded in a different position.

My cap is especially suited for women. and children, for the protection of the head especially in cold weather. It 'is usually knitted, although I do not limit myself to any method of construction. The parts, for example, could be cut out of woven material.

The'cap consists essentially of five` (5) parts, the head portion (7), the front and back flaps (9) and (10) and the side flaps (11) and (12). The two sideiaps, and the front andback flaps are all secured to the rim of the head portion (7). The head portion (7) I prefer to make of spherical contour similar to the upper part of the head. To the center of the top kof the head portion (7) I may attach a tassel (8) or other ornamentation, but this does not constitute any part of my invention. front and back flaps (9) and (10). The side flaps (11) and (12) are of such a length'that when in use their ends overlap under the chin of the wearer. The end of one flap is buttoned to, or other-wise secured to the end of the other flap, as shown in Figures (4) and (5). I therein show the ends of the sidefiaps provided with a button hole (16) and a button (15), for securing the ends together. `The button hole (16) in the side flap (11)., engages with the button (15) on the side flap (12) and vice versa. The side flaps (11) and (12) are adapted for use, either to solely protect the wearers ears, as shown in Figure (3), or to protect both the ears and the throat, as shown in Figure (4). When the side flaps are not adjusted under the chin their ends can be secured at the backof the head, as shown Vin Figure (3), at which time the ears will be thoroughly protected. In this position the ends (13) and (14) of the side flaps are folded rearwardly and maintained in substantially horizontal position for a portion of their length about the neck of the wearer. If however, it is not desired to ears, then the side flaps, as well as the front and back iiaps (9) and (10) can be placed in their up er position, as shown in Figures (1) an (2) and both Buttons 18 are arranged on the head 'por-v tion substantially at the front and rear thereof which are engaged by buttonholes i6 in the ends of the side flaps, thereby to maintain the latter in their selected upper position. )When the 'side flaps (11) and v(12) are in their upper position they are folded over on themselves substantially at right angles to their lengths, thereby to bring their ends (14) and (13) respectively, into a horizontal position, as shown.

It is seen,`by this construction, that I have provided a cap which can beY adjusted in many ways. There are four adjustable flaps, and each flap can be adjusted virtually independent of the other. This is highly desirable in a eap for general use, in all kinds of weather. I prefer to make my cap of a material which will provide a means of ventilation. In the drawing I have illustrated a material in which I have knitted Vparallel rows of Ventilating zones (24). These zones are knitted in such a way as to permit free movement of air therethrough and they may be placed at any distance apart best suited to accomplish the purpose intended.

I appreciate that many modifications can be made in the form of the parts going to make up my complete cap and I do not limit myself to the construction and form disclosed, but what I claim as my invention and wish to cover by Letters Patent is- 1.
