E. VOIGT ELECTROLYSIS SUSPENSION HOOK Filed Feb. 12. 1923 INSULATION EDMUND voron orfomoneo, rumors.
ELECTB-OLYSIS sUsrnNsIoN HOOK.
Application filed February 12, 1923. Serial No. 618,618.
7 To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, EnMUND'VoIor, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State .of Illinois, have invented a new and useful.
is a viewshowing my improved hook in front elevation, having a suspended plate secured in set position in accordance with my improvement for the purpose, and Figure 2 is an edge view of the same.
The suspension-hook, which is designated as a whole in the drawing by the referenceletter A, is shown to be formed of three lengthwiseadjustable sections, 3, 4 and 5.
'The-section 3, which is provided with the hook-like head 3*, contains a central longitudinal slot 3. The section 4 has a bolt? in its upper end extending through the slot 3 in the section 3 andfcarrying a wing-nut 7*, whereby the two sections may be longitudinally adjusted, one with relation to the other, and releasably fastened in adjusted position; and the section 4: contains a central longitudinal slot 4 and terminates at its lower end in a pair of ears 8, from between which a metal shoe 9 is pivotally suspended and pressed, for the purpose hereinafter explained, by a spring 10 extending from the face of the section 4; Either of these sections is of-metal, though it is pre ferred to have them both conductive of elec tricity. The third section 5 is of electrically insulating material, such as ,gutta-percha,
and is expanded, as shown, at its lower end, where it carries the horn-like hangers 11; and this section carries a bolt 12 to pass through the slot 4 and through the lower end portion of the section 3, to enable the sections 4: and 5 to, be longitudinally adjusted, one with relation to the other, a wing-nut 12 on the bolt serving to releasably fasten the sections 4 and 5 in adjusted position. I
By forming the stem A of these three-sections, they may be adjusted with extreme nicety-to lengthen and shorten it for the im mersion purpose referred to in the aforesaid patent.
The case 13, preferably of electrically insulating material, such as gutta-percha, is
provided with means for readily and releasably fastening in most advantageous position thereon different sizes of plates for receiving on their faces the desiredelectrodeposition of metal, by immersion, under suspension by the hook A in a suitable electrolyte. As the preferred means for this purpose, I provide the sheet 13 with numerous openings, shown as circular perforations 15 arranged in the staggered relation repre sented in Fig. l, and adapted to receive button-like fastenerslfi for enabling the lat- I ter to be inserted through the perforations that occur nearest the edges of a plate 17 of given size, so that the button-heads may overlap the plate-edges and hold the plate stably in position on the sheet. To adjust a plate 17 in place, its upper edge is inserted under the folded upper end 13- of the sheet, when the buttons 16 are applied to secure 'it in place, as shown and described; and
mersion of plates in the electrolyte, is sup plemented by the provision "for setting the plates on the sheet 13, whereby the extent in height of the latter to be subjected to the electrolytic action may be gaged with extreme nicety. Either of these adjustments, however, presents its own inherent advan tages. V
I realize that considerable variation is possible in the details of construction herein shown and described, and I do not intend by illustrating or describing a single specificor preferred embodiment of my improvement to be limited thereto, it being my intention in the following claims to claim protection for all the novelty there may he in myinvention as fully as the state of the art will permit.
I claim:
1. A suspension-hook of the character described, comprising an electro-cond'uctive stem formed of a series of sections adjustable longitudinally for lengthening and shortening it, the lowermost section being composed of insulating material and provided with case-hanging means, and a spring-pressed electrical contact-shoe on the last named section.
2. A suspension-hook of the character described, comprising an electro-condu'ctive stem formed of a series of three sections, of which the lowermost is composed of insulating material, the uppermost section having a longitudinal; slot through which a bolt passes from the intermediate section, which contains a longitudinal slot through which a bolt passes from the lower seotien to render said sections relatively adjustable longitudinally for lengthening and shortening the stem.
3. In combination with an electrolysis suspensionhook, a plate carrying sheet provided in its body with perforations, and means co-operating with said perforations for releasably securing in set position thereon plates of different dimensions. c
4. In combination with an electrolysis suspension-hook, aplate carrying. sheet provided in its body with perforations and button-like fasteners adjustable in the perforations with their heads overlapping the edges of and releasably fastening a plate in set position thereon.
5. In combination with an electrolysis suspension-hook, a sheet having a folded upper edge and provided in its body with perforations, a plate on the sheet with its upper edge in the: fold thereof, and buttonlike fasteners in the perforations overlapping at their heads the edges of the plate to releasably fasten it in set position on the sheet.
6. In combination with an electrolysis suspension-hook, a sheet having a folded upper edge and provided with staggered series of perforations, aplate on the sheet with its upper edge in the fold thereof, button-like fasteners in the perforations overlapping at their heads the edges of the plate to releasably fasten it in set position on the sheet, and a spring-pressed shoe on the hook to bear against the plate for electrical contact therewith and stably confine the sheet against the hook-stem.
7. In combination, an electrolysis s ns pension-hook having a stem formed of sections longitudinally adjustable for lengthening and'shortening it, a plate-carrying sheet suspended on the lowermost steinsection and provided in its body with perforations, and means co-operating with said perforations for releasa'bly securing in set position on the sheet plates of differentdimensions.
S. In combination, an electrolysis suspension-hook having a stem formed of sec tions longitudinally adjustable for lengthening and shortening it, a sheet having a folded upper edge and provided with staggered series of perforations, a plate on the sheet with its upper edge in the fold thereof, buttonlike fasteners in the perforations overlappii'ig at their heads the edges of the plate to releasably fasten it in set position on the sheet, and a spring-pressed shoe on the hook-stem to bear against the plate for electrical contact therewith and stably confine the sheet against said stein.
