GABRIEL JASMAGY, OF BRQOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO MORRIS RUBENS, OF NEW YORK CITY.
IMPRGVEMEN-T IN POCKET BOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,243, dated April 28, 18711 application filed March 28, 1874.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, GABRIEL JAsMAeY, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pocket-Books, of which the following is a specification:
Inthe accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a pocket-book, with a part out otf to show method of connection of side flaps andpartitions. Fig. 2 shows the shape of the inside lining of the side-connecting flaps; and Fig. 3, the same folded for use, to be inserted and glued to the partitions of the pocket-book.

- The object of my invention. is to so improve the manufacture of pocket-books, of all sizes, that the stitching hitherto employed for the connection of the folding side flaps with the partitions is entirely done away with, and a neater, stronger, and more durable connection of the same substituted. My invention consists in the construct-ion of. an inside lining 'for the folding side flaps of the pocket-book,
cut or stamped in such shape that, on folding, a semicircular or semi-oval piece, 'with as many folded projecting flaps or tongue pieces, is produced as partitions are used, and the connection of the latter with the folding side flaps obtained by gluing the semicircular pieces to the side flaps and the tongues between the double-partition strips, so that, on folding them into regular shape, a strong and superior pocket-book is furnished.
[In the drawing, A represents the outer part of a pocket-book, which is cut of leather or any other material employed in thismanufacture, and made of any suitable size. The outer part, A, is cut in one piece with the side flaps B, which are formed, before folded up, in semicircular or somewhat elongated shape, according to the size and number of partitions of the'pocket-book. The side flaps B are covered with an inside lining, O, which is, how
that the sector-shaped parts b fit along each other, While the pieces a fold up in as many flap or tongue shaped pieces as there are partitions to be connected in the pocket-book. The lining 0 covers thereby the. whole side 'flap of the pocket-book, and extends, with the end pieces d, over to the main part A, the flap or tongue pieces serving to be introduced-be tween the double partitions D of the pocketbook. The lining is first glued to the side flap. The tongue-pieces are then glued, one after the other, into the corresponding parti-. tions D, and folded up until the whole pocketbook is nicely finished, presenting a neater appearance and dispensing with the annoying tearingout of the stitching, being also of longer duration, as the firm connection of flaps and partitions along the full height of the lat ter gives greater resistance to the wear to which pocket-books are exposed. Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letter Patent As a new article of manufacture, a pocket book, the side flaps of which are connected to the partitions without stitching, by providing the inside lining of the flaps with tongueshaped pieces and attaching them between the partitions, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
GABRIEL JASMAGY.
