To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that CARL MGELVAR and SAMUEL SIMMONs, citizens of the United States, residing at Nesquehoning, in the county of Carbon and State of Pennsyl- Vania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carriers for Miners Battery Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

In carrying out the present invention it is our purpose to provide a highly improved form of carrier for miners battery boxes, the primary object thereof residing in the provision of such a device wherein the battery box is entirely supported from the miners shoulders, the present model of sup porting these boxes being to connect the same to a belt running around the waist which is very uncomfortable due to the fact that the entire weight of the box is upon the miners back.

A further object of this invention is the provision of such a carrier that is comparatively simple of construction, inexpensive of manufact-ure'and of such a nature as to be readily attached or removed, from the body.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawings forming partof this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:

Figure 1 is an elevation of our improved carrier, the same being shown as having a battery box associated therewith;

Figure 2 is a detail cross section upon the line 2-2 of Figure 1; and

Figure 3 is a side elevation of the carrier with the shoulder straps removed.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 5-5 designates a pair of strap members, the ends of which are in overlapped relation and are riveted or otherwise joined together at 6.

The nature of these straps 5 are'such as to permit of the engagement of the usual battery box A therein, these straps conforming to the configuration of the box as more clearly shown in Figure 2.

Connected to the opposite sides of the said straps 55 is a strap member 7, the same extending beneath the lowermost strap 5 and being secured to the opposite sides of each of the straps through the medium of rivets or the like 8.

The free ends of the strap member 7 are lapped inwardly before being attached to the uppermost strap 5 for providing eyelets for the reception of the usual bail members of snap hooks 9.

Adapted for interconnection with the snap hooks 9 are rings 10 that are joined to other rings 11, these lastmentioned rings receiving shoulder straps 12. One end of each of the shoulder straps 12 is formed with a plurality of spaced openings 13 while the opposite end carries a buckle 14, the usual pivoted tongue adapted for engagement within a selective opening 13 of the opposite end of the strap.

It is, of course, obvious that the shoulder straps 12 are to be positioned over the shoulders of the miner in such a manner as to have the ends thereof positioned at the front for permitting adjustments of the straps. Between the portions of the straps 12 that extend downwardly upon the back is an elastic strap connection 15 for preventing the casual disengagement of the straps 12 from the miners shoulders.

In view of the above description it will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the art that we have provided a battery box carrier that is a substantial improvement upon similar devices now upon the market.

Although we have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
