Description

AugI IG,
D. S'ILBERMAN HOOK TAPE Original Filed July 28, 1924 INVENTOR BY W W I ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 16, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HOOK TAPE.
Original application filed July 28, 1924, Serial No. 728,645, Patent No. 1,622,743, dated March 29, 1927. Divided and this application filed March 21, 1927. Serial No. 177,082.
My invention relates to the hook member of hook and eye tapes and it is my object to produce a strong tape which can be readily attached to a garment and to'which the hooks are securely fastened with the bases of the hooks concealed and protected. Specifically the invention is the hook member of the hook and eye tape disclosed in my atent application S-er. No. 728,645, filed l0 uly 28, 1924, and patented March 29, 1927,
#1,622,743 of which this is a division.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is a face view of the hook and eye tape with the hook tape artly broken away to show how the hook ases are attached to the base ply of the tape; and Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the hook member of the structure of Fig. 1 on the line 22 thereof.
To produce my improved tape a specially woven fabric having a single ply at one side and a double ply at the other side is employed so that the tape is integral in itself and not made of two or more pieces sewed I together.
In making the hook tape member the'uni tary tape is employed and the single ply 1 divides into two plies 2 and'3 near its median line, the ply 2 being slightly less in width than the ply 3, as shown best in Fig. 2.
The hooks 4 are secured to the ply 3 by 3 rivets 5, but other fastening means may be employed. The ply 2 extends over the hook bases and rivets and under the bills of the hooks. The plies 2 and 3 may be sewed together by a line of stitching 6 if desired.
In use'the ply l is sewed to the edge of a garment opposite to the eye member and the hooks and eyesmay be readily engaged and disengaged without any danger of catching the eyes on the hook bases or rivets which 40 are covered and protected by the ply 2.
I claim Hook tape comprising a strip of integrally woven tape having a single ply at one edge divided into two plies near its median line, one of said latter plies being wider than the other, a plurality of spaced hooks secured to the wider of the latter plies, the bills of said hooks extending over the narrower of the latter plies whereby the bases .of the hooks and securing means are covered, concealed and protected, and adapted to have a garment edge secured to the single ply.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
DAVID SILBERMAN.
