HANDLE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PARRY CONRAD OLIVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Naperville, in the county of Du Page and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Handles, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention has reference to a novel construction of handles for traveling bags, etc.

An object of the invention is to construct a handle for this purpose from leather or similar material to include a body portion designed to be rounded upon itself and the ends thereof switched around a core, while from the ends of the body there are projected straps provided with suitable buckles to engage the eyes of a traveling bag or other article to be supported from the handle.

The drawing which accompanies and forms part of this application, illustrates a satisfactory embodiment of the improve. ment reduced to practice, and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective View illustrating the improvement attached to a traveling bag or the like.

Figure 2 is an elevation of the handle, parts being broken away.

Figure 3 is an approximately transverse sectional View therethrough.

Figure 4 is a view of the blank from which the handle is formed.

Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4:, but showing the manner in which the straps may be integrally formed with the body.

Figure 6 is a perspective view of the rubher or other compressible tube that constitutes the inner element or core for the handle.

As disclosed in Figures fl: and 5, the handle includes a body constituting a substantially rectangular strip of leather or other suitable material, indicated in Figure 4 by the numeral 1, and in Figure 5 by the numeral 1. In Figure 4:, at the ends and at the center of the body 1 there are riveted or otherwise secured straps 2 provided with buckles 3, while in Figure 5 there are exsatchel or the like, indicated by the numeral 5, the said straps being engaged by the buckles.

The body of the improvement is designed to receive therein a core 6. The core is preferably in the nature of a rubber tube, which has its wall between its outer surface and its bore thickened, or in other words the bore is comparatively small, and the body proper may be reinforced by an inner tube such as is disclosed in Figure 6 of the drawings.

The edges of the body are brought together and are stitched, as at 7. The body is thus round in cross section and is arched longitudinally, it being noted that the core 6 is arched circumferentially.

A handle, as above described, may be readily attached to the eyes of any device to be carried, is of a simple construction which may be cheaply manufactured, which will snugly accommodate itself to the hand of the user, and which may be adjusted with respect to the article to which it is attached.

Having described the invention, Ii claim A handle for the purpose specified, the same comprising a substantially rectangular leather body having straps extending centrally from the ends thereof, buckles on said straps, a compressible hollow core arranged eentrally in the body, said core being arched longitudinally, and said body being brought over the core and the edges of the body stitched together.
