Description

C. WADE STOVEPIPE ANCHOR AND LOCK Filed Dec. 1923 awz Wade. ava fiajmb ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented June 24, 1924.
UNITED STATES CHARLES WADE, OF SAGINAW, MICHIGAN.
STOVEPIPE ANCHOR AND LOCK.
Application filed December 8, 1923. Serial No. 679,442. I
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES VADE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe Anchors and Locks, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a thimble adapted to be built into a chimney and anchored, the thimble being formed with a portion cooperating with a lug on the pipe entering the chimney, and the lug being engaged by a locking element, so that there is no possibility of accidental separation, and no danger of fire from this cause.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of elements described illustrated and claimed, it being understood that modifications may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings, Figur 1 shows a pipe and the end of a stove pipe locked in posi tion; Figure 2 is an end elevation of the thimble, in position in the chimney; Figure 3 is a side elevation of the thimble; Figure t is a fragmentary perspective view, the
locking elements being detached.
The main cylindrical portion 10 of the thimble and portion of a chimney in section,
A section of pipe is designated 18, and a lug 19 secured thereto enters a recess 20 formed in the tl1imble--the recess constituting a groove in the inner wall. A slot or opening 21 communicates with the recess and extends radially of the thimble, providing for the insertion of a key 22 for engaging the lug 19 and preventing accidental displacement of the pipe. I
The thimble may be made of iron or other suitable material of suflicien-t strength to 55 permit it to constitute a reinforcement when built into the structure, with the flanges surrounding the edges of the flue opening 11 in the manner indicated.
What I claim is:
1. In a devic of the class described, a pipe thimble comprising a cylindrical portion having flanges on opposite ends thereof, said thimble having a recess opening toward the bore of the thimble, a pipe projecting into the thimble, a locking element carried by the pipe, said element entering the recess, and means for retaining the locking element in position.
2. In a device of the class described, a pipe thimble comprising a cylindrical portion having flanges on opposite ends thereof, said thimble being formed wit-h a recess communicating with the bore of the thimble,
a pipe projecting into the thimble, a lug carried by the pipe and located in the recess, and a key passing through a portion of the thimble and engaging the lug.
3. The combination with a thimble having a flange, the flange having a recess therein, of a pipe projecting into the thimble and a lug thereon, said lug being located in the recess, the flange having an opening extending radially of the thimble, and a key entering the opening and engaging the lug.
CHARLES WADE.
