Description

W. SAWYER.. Shaving-Muga'.
' Patented April21,1874.
` l [IWI/wall' @JEM/aw, wv/ L NITEn Sfr WILLIAM SAWYER, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
d IMPROVEMENT IN SHAVlNG-MUGS.
Specific. tion forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,587, dated April 21, 1874 application filed I September 13, 1873. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM SAWYER, otr
the city of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Shaving-Mug, of which the following is a specication: y
This invention relates to an improved shaving-mug having separate compartments for the water, soap, and shaving-brush, arranged in such a manner as to be convenient for use and ornamental in appearance; and the improve'- ment consists, tirst, in constructing` the shavin g-mug in such a manner that the top is tripod in shape-the receptacle for the brush is provided by a section of the shaving-mug being constructed so as to form a tubular vessel circular 'at its top; second, in combining with the above-described device a dish for the purpose of holding` the soap, and constructed within the rim of the shaving-mug.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view in perspectiveof my improved shavingmug; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, taken at the line :l: :17, in order to exemplify more fully its construction. Y
ln the drawing, A represents the shavingmug, constructed in such a manner that the two projections B and O are formed tapering downward to the base of the shaving-mug. The projection or vessel B is constructed to answer thegp'urpose of compartment to hold the shaving'rbrush, as shown i'n the drawings. There is an "opening in the bottom of the receptacle. Bthrough which .the drippings from the brush pass, and by this arrangement the vbrush is kept in good condition for use. Fur- `thermore, the formation of the said receptacle B, becoming smaller as it nears its base, makes it a desirable vessel for the shaving-brush, because the hairs of the brush are thereby kept together and in shape, whereas in vessels ot' ordinary construction the shaving-brush necessarily spreads, soon spoiling it for use. The projection C serves as a spout, and is a means whereby the water can be poured conveniently from the water-compartment D of the shaving-mug. The said projection C also causes the shaving-mug to be more symmetrical than it otherwise would be, and, moreover, furnishes additional room for the water-compartment D. The dish or receptacle E for the soap is constructed inside the shavingmug, and is perforated at its bottom, so that the refuse is drawn oft into the water-compartment D below. The two projections B and C are constructed in a tapering form downward to the base of the shaving-mug, as shown at a a.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and wish to secure by Letters Patent- -l. A shaving-mug consisting of the receptacles B, E, and D, combined substantially as and for the purpose set forth. l 2. In combination with a shaving-mug, the receptacle B, constructed as described, and for the purpose set forth.
WILLIAM SAWYER.
