NVENTOR! WITNESSES ATTORNEYS.

UNITED STATES PETER PLEINES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 208,632, dated October 1, 1878; application filed August 17, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER PLEINEs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Table, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a top view of my improved table, shown with part of the top removed; and Fig. 2 is avertical longitudinal section of the same on line 00 ac, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish, for club-houses, saloons, and other purposes, an improved table, in which the shelves below the table are so arranged that the wine, beer, or other glasses may be placed out of the way and any drippin gs therefrom conducted off, so that the shelves are kept in dry and clean state, and may also be more conveniently cleaned of dirt after use.
The invention consists of a table having shelves that slant toward the center and open into a detachable receptacle or drip-cup, supported below the center opening. The shelves are provided with radialgrooves or gutters that drain off the drippings of the beer or other glasses.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a table of square, round, or other shape, below the top of which are arranged the usual shelves B for storing away the glasses, ashcups, and other articles. These shelves are cut out between the legs of the table, so as to furnish space for the legs of the players. The legs of the table are connected in the usual manner by radial partitions, that give strength to the table and divide the shelves. Each shelf B is made to slant slightly from the outside toward the center, where at the lowest point an opening is formed that communicates with a receptacle or drip-cup, G, which is sup ported by side flanges, either in guide-rails at the under side of the shelves or on buttons over which the recessed flange is turned, or in other suitable manner, so that the drip-cup may be readily removed and cleaned. The inclined shelves B are provided with radial or other grooves or gutters D, that serve to take up the drippings of the glasses and to conduct them to the dripcup. The shelves are thereby kept clean and dry during use, so as to be less objectionable than the tables at present in use, in which the shelves serve as accumulators of dirt. The slanting shelves drain off the drippings, and are clean and dry during the time the tables are occupied, and are cleaned with greater facility after use, as the water runs off from the shelves and out at the center aperture.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A table having subjacent radially-grooved shelves B declining toward the center, and provided 'with a central drip-cup made removable, as and for the purpose specified.
PETER PLEINES.
