Description

Junefi, 1924- o. G. HITCHCOCK LAUNDRY TRAY FAUCET Filed Sept. 20. 1923 Patented June 3, 1924.
U l I OTTO G.'HITCHCOCK, O-F ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HAYS MANUFACTURING 00., OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA.
LAUNDRY-TRAY FAUCE'I.
Application filed September 20, 1923. Serial No. 663,858.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Or'ro Gr. Hirer-1000K,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, county of Erie, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Laundry-Tray Faucets, of
which the following is'a specification.
My invention relates to that class of devices known as laundry tray faucets, embodying the usual hot and cold water supply pipes,a common mixing chamber, and a swiveled discharge pipe adapting the device for use in connection with a two-compartment laundry tub; and has for its object 5 to provide an improved means for detachably attaching the device to the rear wall of a tub in such manner as effectually to prevent any rocking or other movement of the same.
This object I accomplish in the manner and by the means hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved device shown attached to the rear wall of a conventional two-compartment laundry tub.
Figure 2- is a side elevation of the same, the rear wall of the tub being in section.
Figure 8 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken on the line IIIIII of Figure 1.
Similar numerals of reference denote corresponding! parts in the several views.
In the said drawing, the reference numoral 1 denotes a conventional combination faucet-as above described, the same being provided with the usual mixing chamber 2 for the hot and cold water, in the top of which is swiveled a swinging discharge spout 3, adapted to discharge into either section of a two-compartment tub, in a manner readily understood. Formed integral with the bottom wall of the mixing chamber 2 are two lugs 4:, each being apertured at 5 freely to receive a threaded bolt 6, as shown in detail in Figure 3. Associated with each of said lugs is a clamping jaw 7, also freely apertured in its upper end at 8 to register with the aperture 5 in the lug 4 and receive the threaded bolt 6. A similar but oppositely disposed jaw 9 is provided with a threaded aperture in its upper end to be engaged by the threaded portion of the bolt 6, as shown.
In use the device is disposed with the jaws 7 and 9 straddling the rear wall of the tub 10, but upon opposite sides of its central partition 11, as best seen in Figure 1. It will be observed, by reference to Figures 2 and 3, that the inner faces of the jaws 7 and 9 are formed at 12 at an angle slightly acute to the bottom faces of the horizontal portions thereof, the result being that when the device is positioned on the tub, and the screws 6 tightened to draw said jaws together'and against the lugs 4, there will occur a contact between the low-- ermost ends of said jaws 7 and 9 and the wall of the tub, which together with the contact therebetween of the bottom walls of the horizontal portions of said jaws, will afford an extremely firm means of attachment. and one which will befree from any possible rocking movement, which might occur with the contacting walls disposed at a right angle to each other.
It will be understood that in illustrating the device, the angular disposition of the faces 12 is shown somewhat exaggerated, as it is necessary that there be but a very slight deviation from a right angle, to accomplish the desired result.
Having thus fully described my inven tion. what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A faucet formed with an integral pair of apertured lugs, oppositely faced apertured angular clamping jaws for each lug, and screw-bolts passing through and adjustably connecting said lugs and jaws to clamp the latter to a support.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
OTTO G. HITCI-IOOOK.
