Uur invention relates to improvements in automatic stop motions for looms and relates more particularly to an attachment designed primarily Jtor the ("wmptondnowles automatic box loom. tor the purpose of bringing' the usual stop motion into play in case a shuttle should become lodged in the shuttle boX. 1
When changing bobbins on an automatic loom, it frequently happens that the bobbin does not take the correct position in the shuttle. with the result that this shuttle is trapped partly in and partly out oi the shuttle box. This leaves the binderl open and renders the protection rod inoperative and thus the loom continues to run and the other shuttle coming from the opposite end. oi the loom. will strike the trapped shuttle andv break out the Warp. also frequently breaking the .filling battery or other parts ot thevloom. it is the object of our invention however to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive, yet a highly efiicient and reliable attachment whereby Y upon a movable stop motion operating de` vice mounted on the-,breast beam for the purpose oi' engaging; it with a part of the stop motion mechanism, bringingthe loom to an immediato standstill, novelprovision being made for automatically disengaging said stop motion operating' device 'from the stop motion part operated thereby, when the proper Work has been performed, thereby preventing possible injury to parts' which might otherwise occur on complet-ion of the lays movement toward the breast beam.

This member is by preference in the form of ahorizontal arm 15 pivoted at 16 to the carrier 5 adjacent its offset end 13. The manner in Which the arni 15 acts against the lever SM is disclosed in Fig. 6, but as soon as this lever has been actuated to release l the' shipper lever SL. upon partial movement of the lay toward the breast beam, permitting the latter to move to an operative positioiuthe arm is disengaged from the. lever Sill automatically. as seen in Fig. 7, as the lay completes its movement. This prevents possible injury from resulting to any parts of the loom or attachment. which would occur if the device Werey permitted to establish a rigid connection between the lay and the lever SM, before the lay had conipleted its movement toward the breast beam. For the purpose of effecting the automatic release of the arm 15, We have shown a cam 17 adjustably secured by a suitable bolt and slot connection 18 to the base ange'Q of the support 1. rlhis cani is co-operable with an inclined shoulder 19 at one end of a recess 20 which is `cut in the vlower edge of the desired manner, it is advisable that the pivot 16 thereof shall be rather loose. Movement of said arms away from the Harige 3 however is prevented by a suitable guide finger 21 which may well be held in place by the bolt of the connection 18.
By employing the construction shown or a substantial equivalent thereof. an: attachment is provided which is simple and inexpensive. may be easily attached to a loom, and will be very effective for bringing the machine to a standstill in case the shuttle should become lodged from any cause. thereby e'ectively preventing break-outs with their consequent trouble and loss of time.
Excellent results have been obtained from a device constructed iii accordance with the present disclosure and ive theretoreconsider this construction as preferable. It is tobe understood however that within the scope of the inventionas claimed. numerous minor changes may be made.
We claim:
1. ln a loom attachment having a stop motion operating device adapted to be moved by a lodged shuttle on the loom lay, `said operatingl device havingr a portion adapted to contact with and operate a stop motion control upon partial movement of the lay towards the usual breast beam; means for automatically moving said porrasees@ tion of vsaid operating device positively out ot contac-t with the stop motion control as the lay completes its movement toward the. breast beam.

A device of the class described compris ing a support having a horizontal base portion for attachment to the breast beam of a loom and a vertical [lange rising from said base portion` a slide parallel with and movement on said vertical flange in the same direction as the lay of the loom, said slide being adapted to opera-te by a lodged shuttle upon partial movement ot' the shuttle carrying lay toward the breast beam of the loom, anl arm over said base portion pivoted to said slideand adapted to operate a part of a stop motion, and a am carried by said base portion for automatically releasing said arm from the aforementioned stop motion part While the lay completes its movement toward the breast beam, said arm having a surface cio-operable with said cam.
