IMPROVEMENT IN EAVES-TROUGH HANGERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,651, dated April 14, 1874 application filed March 21, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known-that I, LEWIs E. GOULD, of Nashua, in the county of Hillsborough and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and Improved Eaves Trough Support, of which the following is a specification:

In the accompanyingdrawing, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved eavestrough support as attached below the roof. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a modification of the same, and Fig. 3 a vertical transverse section of the modification.

The object of my invention is to furnish an improved eaves-trough support or bracket which is readily applied to the wall below the roof, and admits of adjustment in horizontal and vertical direction for obtaining the exact position of the trough. My invention consists of a horizontal slotted or solid arm, which is screwed into the Wall, and which has adjusted thereon, in horizontal and vertical direction, the upright arm with forked end, for supporting firmly the trough. The connection of the horizontal and upright arms is made by a clamping-screw or other suitable fastening device.

In the drawing, A represents the horizontal arm of my eaves-trough support, which is screwed by its threaded end into the cornice or wall of the house at some distance below the edge of the roof. The front end of arm A is either slotted, as in Fig. 1, or solid, as in Fig. 2, one. side thereof being, in the former case, grooved or out like a rasp, to allow the closer and more intimate connection therewith of the similarly-cut side of the upright arm B.

'Arm B may also be made either slotted or solid, the slotted and grooved arm being applied to the slotted horizontal arm by a clamping-screw, a, passing through the slots, so that it may be adjusted to the full length of the slots in horizontal and vertical direction, or under suitable angle of inclination to the same. The upper end of upright arm B is produced with a semicircular or otherwise shaped fork, into which the eavestrough is placed and supported. A hook-shaped end of the outer arm of the fork projects around the edge of the trough, and gives thereby greater stability to the same. When both arms are made solid, a clamping-piece,b, with double staple b and set-screw d, as shown in Fig. 3, serves for sliding and fastening the upright arm into the required position, the same being elevated or lowered and moved toward or from the wall until the trough is exactly adjusted to the drip of the eaves. Thus a very strong, durable, and readily-applied bracketsupport for eaves-troughs is obtained.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improvement in eavestrough supports or brackets, the horizontal bracket-arm A, screwed to the wall, in combination with the adjustable upright arm B, having forked end for supporting the trough, and a suitable guide and clamping device for adjusting the trough in the exact position required by the drip, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
