Description
CHARLES C. KELLY AND JULIUS IMPROVEMENT UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ooBB, on sT. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
IN ENVELQPES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,484, dated April 7, 1874; application Hled Maren 6, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, CHARLES C. KELLY and JULIUS COBB, of St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Envelope, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a plan of the envelope, before it is folded. Figs. 2 and 3 represent the same partially folded, and Fig.'4 the same folded complete.
The invention relates to the construction of package-envelopes, so as to make them more secure and reliable,
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents the central rectangular 'piece or body of the envelope, B B4 the end flaps, and G G the side iiaps. The side iiap C is made, preferably, rectangular, although it may be rounded at the corners, if so desired. It is the rst iiap folded, and has two longitudinal slits, c c, that receive the heads c1 ci, of thel opposite side iiap c1, which is folded next The third flap folded is the end one B, which has a head, l), which passes through the two transverse slits c2 c3 in the side iiaps. The end flap B is the last one which is folded upon: the others, its head b1 passing through the three transverse slits b2 c4 05 Each of theheads b b1 c1 has a maximum width toward the base which exceeds that of the slit into which. it fits, and is recessed under and on each sideI of this base. This allows the formation. of wings that turn and are readily inserted, While, after insertion, thetT become catches to hold together the connected parts.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is" As an article of manufacture, a package envelope consisting of body A, end aps B B',
and side flapsCO ,the said iiaps having heads b b1 c1 c and slits ,b2 ,c c2 c? ci* c5, constructed and arranged as and for the purpose specified.
The above specification of our invention signed by ns this 7th day of January, A. D. 1874.
