Be it known that I, FELIX F. FISLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vineland, in the county of Cumberland and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washing 'Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain improvements in washing devices and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in the cleansing of automobiles and the like and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved structure embodying a brush or mop head together "with means whereby a saponified liquidor v the like may be applied with a brush or mop head. Another object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this general character of a fountain type wherein is comprised a brush or mop head having operatively engaged therewith a tubular handle adapted for connection with a sup ply of liquid, the connection between the handle and head being such whereby the liability of the head accidentally turning during its working operation is substantially eliminated.

A further object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this general character comprising a head in which is adapted to be engaged a brush or mop head together with means carried by the head and positioned inwardly of the mop or brush to hold a saponified or other cleansing medium, said means also serving to properly distribute a supply of water upon the mop or brush.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my impartly in perspective with certain of the parts removed and with the soap holding menber separated with respect to the head; an I Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional View taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 1; v o As disclosed 111 the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes a head preferably circular in form and-which'has its'marginal portions turned downwardly andinwardly to form an annular channel or recess 2. The mop or brush 3 is preferably of an annular type and comprises an eXpansible core 4 of wire or other resilient means adapted to exert requisite pressure to maintain the mop or brush 3 firmly inengagement within the head 1, said core expanding within the annular channel 'or recess 2 to effect, the requisite holding action for the mop or brush 3 as is believed to be' clearly illustrated in Figure 1 jof the vided with an opening 5 to afford communication within an. elongated tubular handle member 6. The handle member 6 is substantially straight from one end to the other and has one extremity secured to the head 1. The handle member 6 is disposed on an angle of substantially 30 with respect to the axis of the head 1 and of suflicient length to permit the same to be easily and conveniently grasped by the hand of an operator. By having the handle 6 so arranged with respect to the head 1 it has been found in practice, that the device in its entirety can be em:

ployed with increased facility in view of the fact that access for the purpose of cleansing may be readily had within corners or relatively restricted places. Furthermore,

it has been found that by having this relative arrangement of the head 1 and the handle 6, the liability of the head 1 accidentally turning or tilting during a working operation is substantially eliminated as would not be true in the event any portion of the handle was angularly disposed.

Arranged within the head 1 and underlying the opening 5, when in working position, is a spraying or sprinkling member 7 con cavo convex in form with its convex face downwardly disposed. The member 7 has its marginal portion defined by an outstanding flange 8, said flange at diametrically opposed points being provided with the recesses or notches 9. The member 7 when applied underlies'the head 1 and is maintained in applied position by the lugs 10 which overlie the flange 8 as is clearly illustrated in Figure 1. The recesses or notches 9 provide means whereby the member 7 may be readily removed or applied, the lugs 10 readily passing through said recesses or notches 9. It is thought to be obvious that by imparting a slight rotary movement to the member 7, the notches or recesses 9 may be so positioned with respect to the lugs 10 to maintain the member 7 in applied position or to permit such member to be readily removed.

This member 7 is provided with a plurality of relatively small openings 11 arranged in rows extending radially of the member 7 whereby liquid discharged through the handle 6 will be caused to effectively saturate the mop or brushhead 3 and thereby assure an effective cleansing operation.

It is to be understood that the soap or other cleansing medium is "applied within the member 7 before the mop or brush 3 has been engaged with the head, said applied brush or mop providing further means to maintain the member 7 in closed position and in order to bring the member 7 into open position for the removal or application of the soap or the like, it is necessary that the mop or brush 3 be removed.

The outer end portion of the handle 6 is provided with a coupling means 12 whereby the handle may be operatively engaged with a hose or the like leading from a suitable source of water supply, preferably under pressure.

From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a washing device constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembledand operated, and it will also be obvious that my inventionis susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this'reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed. 5 I

I claim i e A device of the class described comprising a cupped head, a tubular handle carried by the head and in communication with the interior thereof, said'handle being, adapted to be connected with a suitable source of liquid supply, a concavo convex distributor -inem-- ber held to the inner face 'of the head, the concave face of the member being opposed to the head, the marginal portion ofsaid member being defined by an outstanding flange, said flange being provided with spaced notches, and lugs carried by the inner face of the head, said lugs readily passing through the notches in the flange'of the retaining member and underlying said flange upon partial'rotation of said member whereby the retaining member is maintained in applied position and an annular mop element secured within the head and surrounding the distributor member.
