WILLIAM KUNDEL, 0F HOBOKEN', NEW JERSEY.
AUTOWOBILE SOAP SIiIOWElZt AND RINSING BRUSHi Application led December 29, 1926.
This invention relates to an improved brush and particularly to an improved automoblie soap shower and rinsing brush and has for an object to provide an improved structure wherein soap or soap suds and Water may be forced out through the bristles of the brush independently or in conjunction witha stream of clear water.
Another object of the invention is to pro- A vide in a brush means for discharging soap and water out one point and clear water out another point.
A further object, more specifically, is to provide a brush for cleaning automobiles and 'other articles wherein a space is provided for soap through which water may be passed and discharged out adjacent the bristles with means for discharging a stream of clear water at a point 'a little distant from by numerals, 1 indicates generally a handle and 2 generally a brush connected with the handle while 3 represents generally a valve for controlling the flow of liquid through handle 1 and brush 2. The entire structure is intended primarily as a brush structure for cleaning automobiles or other articles quickly and thoroughly. In cleaning automobiles particularly, it is desirable to apply soap suds or water With soap so as to remove dirt and objectionable matter and then it is desirable to rinse the automobile with clear water in some manner. Heretofore, it has taken two operations to throughly clean an automobile body or the parts of an automobile. In the present instance, means have been provided for applying soapy Water, rubbing the same against the desired surface and substantially simultaneously applying clear rinsing Water.
Referring more particularly to Figure 1, it will be noted that the valve 3 is provided with a through passage-way 4 and a lateral side passage-way 5 whereby water may pass from a suitable supply through the passagebe performed substantially in Serial No. 157,782.
Way 6 and from thence through both of the passage- ways 4 and 5 into the respective passage-ways and 8. In this way water is supplied to the chamber or compartment 9 and also to the discharge opening or nozzle structure 10. Il. desired, a handle 11 could be turned the passage-way l7 only or through the passage-way 8 only. It will be noted that a connecting member 12 is connected with valve 4 and thereby presents a continuing passage-way for passage-way 7, said continuing passage-way merging into the pas'- sage-Way 13 formed by the pipe 14, which pipe extends to a point near the nozzle or dlscharge opening 10. This pipe is provided with an enlargement or litting 15 which fits latwise against the spacing washer 16 except at the surface 17 which is opposite the opening 10. The washer 16 extends entirely around the body 18 of the brush structure 2 1n order to provide a tight connection between the body and the top 19 except at the point indicated as opening 10. The top 19 is provided with a threadedportion 20' which receives the cap 21, said cap being comparatively large so that solid particles of soap may be readily inserted into the hollov7 body 18. The bristle face of the body 18 is provided Witha number of apertures 22 whereby when water is passed in through the passageway 8 and passage-way 8, it will enter the chamber 9 and from thence pass through the passage-way 22. As the water moves in this path it will take up some ot' the soap and torce the same through the passage-wav 22- onto the surface engaged by the bristles 23. By movement of the bristles 23 over the sur- 'face to be cleaned, the soap and water is applied simultaneously for cleaning purposes. lVhen the valve structure 3 is set as shown 1n Figure 1, water will also discharge out through the nozzle 10 and by using the brush at the top of the automobile and working downwardly, the rinsing water will be discharged onto the cleaned and soaped surface whereby the soapy Water will be rinsed from the automobile and the surface left cleaned. Also, in order to protect the hands during the washing operation, a cup-shaped member 24 of rubber or other material is provided near the brush structure 2 so as to catch any dri pinos.
s in icated Iin the drawing, the body 18 and top 19 are secured together by screws 25, though if desired, the same may be connected so that waterwould pass through together in any other desired manner. In forming the invention, different slight changes ma be made without departing from the spirit of the invention provided a chamber functioning as chamber 9 is provided so that soap suds or soap and water may be discharged through openings similar to openings 22 and in addition, clear water may be discharged at a convenient point simultaneously with the soapy water or at a different time. In the drawing, the body 18 has been shown as round but it will be evident that the same could be obloniT or any desired shape without departing From the s irit of thelinvention.
