Altbough I have sbown and described one speciiic form in which 1ny invention may be embodied it will be understood tbat ether arrangements and constructions may be used without departing from the scope of my invention. Therefore I do not Wisb to be understood as limiting myslf to the construction illustrated excepting in so far as specifically defined in the appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. In combination, a type holding mmber provided with a pair of parallel flexible tension me1nbers torming a groove foi boldng type under lateral pressiire of said tension members. and a separableframe for receivinn; said holding member and providing lateral support for said flexible tension membrs to secure said type "in place with a relatively greater degree of rigidity than )l 1at afi'orded b v said flexible tension mem-- ers.

2. A plurality of separable type holding members each provided with a pair of parallel flexible members forming a groeve fo1" receiving type, and means seeiiring said The arrangement is 1neinbers eacb provided with a pair of parallel flexible members forming a groove for receiving type, 1neans securing said holding 1ne1nbers togetber witb adjacent flexible members in mutual supporting en gageinent and rigid supporting means for the extreme outer type holding members.

In combination, a frame, a separable type holding unit provided yvith a pair of parallel fiexible tension 1ne1nbers forming a groove for receiving and holding type and independent of said frame said frame baving 1neans between wbich said holding unit may be secured, witb said flexible members supported under lateral pressure.

5. In combination with a frame, a removable type holding member provided with a pair of parallel flexible tension members along opposite sides thereof and forming a groove for receiving type, said frame having laterally 1novable means between wbich said holding member may be secured, with said flexible 1nembers supported under lateral pressure.

6. In a device of the cbaracter descri-bed, a type bolder comprising a member recessed along one edge and provided with flexible tension members supported en opposite sides of said recess to form a groove for receiving and holding type under longitudinal elastic tension of said flexible members.

7. In a device of the character described, a type bolder coinprising a member recessd along one edge and provided witb flexible members consisting of an endless rubber band supported on opposite sides of sa1d recess to form a groove for receivii1g type.

8. In a device of the cbaracter described, a plurality of separable type bolders eacb co1nprising a member recessed along one edge and provided witb flexible menibers supported on opposite sides of said recss to form a groeve or receiving type and means f0r securing said bolders together with adjacent flexible members in mutual supportingengagement.

9. In a device of the.cbaracter described, a plurality of separable type bolders eacb comprising a nie1nber recessed along one edge and provided vvith flexible members supported on opposite sides of said recessto form a groove for receiving type, means for securing said bolders togetber with adjacent flexible members in Inutualsupporting engagement comprising a pair of rigid end pieces, and a clampihg device adjustably connecting said end pieces togetber.

10. In a device of the character described, a plurality of separable type holding units each comprising a mmbei rcessed along one edge and provided with flexibletension 1nembers supported (in opposite sideso said recess to form u groove for holding type independently o1 euoh ether, means or seouring said holders together with adjaeent flexible 1ne1nbers in n1utual supporting engagement, i pair of rigid end pieces, and a pair of olamping members passing through said holders :1nd said end pieces.

15. A type bolder comprising a body nieinber hevi1igend supports, and a continuous flex1ble member pass1ng around sa1d end supports -to form a type receiving groove.

16.A type helder comprisin'g a body member having end supports and a continuous flexible me1nber passing around Said end supports and maintained under tension to form a type IGCGVIIg groove.

17. A type bolder oomprising a member heving end supports substantially defining the height -of thetype to be received thereby, and L pair of spaeed tension members extending between adjacent sides of said end supports to form a type receiving groove.
