capable of general application, it finds one advantageous use in connection with display boxes of the general type disclosed in my prior U. S. Letters Patent No. 1,410,763, dated March 28, 1922.

The general object of the invention is to provide improved means for supporting the liftable box bottom in inclined position for display purposes,characterized in that the box bottom is held in a manner such that comparatively heavy articles may be supported upon it and in a manner such as to restrain tilting.

Another object of the invention is to provide a box bottom supporting means of the general type described as a part of a foldable member which functions as an inner cover for the box, when closed, and as a display member, when the box is open. Another object of the invention is to provide a box body supporting means, which is foldably connected to the box bottom and is detachably engageable with the foldable bracing members which connect the side walls of the box enclosure to the outer cover, the box body being liftable between such bracing members and servin to prevent collapse thereof under the weight of the box body and contents.

Referring to these drawings, the display box is constructed in a manner similar to that disclosed in my prior patent above identified, preferably from a single blank such as shown in Fig. 4 and suitably cut and scored as there indicated. The box includes a front, rear and two end

12, 14, and 13 and 15 respectively which are foldably connected and suitably joined together to form a rectangular enclosure. Movably mounted within this enclosure is a box body, comprising, a bottom 1,

2 and 3, a front wall 10 and a rear wall 4 all foldably connected, as indicated by the lines of scoring in Fig. 4. This box body is hinged to the front Wall 12 of the enclosure, preferably by hinging the upper edges of each together as indicated by the line of scoring 11. This box body is foldable within the enclosure as disclosed in my prior patent and as clearly shown in Figs. 1, 5and 6.

As distinguished from my prior patent, however, I extend the rear wall 4 of the box body to form an inner cover 5, which is foldably connected to the wall 4, as indicated, and which is provided with

6 and 7, intended to serve primarily as a means for retaining the box body in display position although useful in the usual manner when the box is closed; It is not necessarily essential according to all features ofthe invention that the box body retaining means 6 and 7 constitute part of aninner cover 5 although this arrangement is generally to Y be preferred. Preferably although not necessarily, small notches 6' and 7 are provided along the line of fold of

6 and 7 and at that end of such lines adjacent the rear Wall 4. Small flaps 8 and 9 may be provided at the ends of the rear wall to fold inwardly therefrom and partially overlap the

The main or outer cover of the box, as in my prior patent, is foldably connected as indicated at 14 to the rear wall 14 of the described enclosure and provided with the usual flap 20 foldably connected thereto as indicated at 19. This cover, as shown, comprises two

16 and 18 which are connected by a line of scoring 17. This arrangement, which is desirable for reasonsto later appear, is not, however, necessarily essential and an outer cover like that of my prior patent may be used instead. The outer cover is connected to the

13 and 15 are provided in members 13 and 15' respectively, and lead from their upper edges downwardly a short distance in diverging relation to the rear wall 14 of the described enclosure. These

6 and 7 and hold the box body in raised and display position as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 6. The

6 and 7 engage over the upper edges of the slotted bracing members 13' and 15' and assist in holding the flaps and bracing members in the desired relation.

The

12, 13. 14, and 15 are provided with the score lines 12', 12 13* and '14 as shown in Fig. 4 whereby the sides and ends of the box may be readily folded into a rectangular form. The flap or end 12 is suitably attached to the end of the piece 15, as by glue or paste when assembled.

The forward edge of the inner cover 5 when folded downward, over the articles indicated at 21, in Fig. 1 is spaced away a short distance from the front wall 12 as indicated at 5 in Fig. 3. This space permits the user to insert his fingers for raising the cover 5 when the box is to be opened and the goods indicated at 21 are to be displayed.

The box is folded up from the blank shown in Fig. 4 in the following manner,-

The part 10 is now folded downward and into the outer section and against the inner surface of the part 12 (see Fig. 6). Next the

2 and 3 are folded so as to stand at right angles to the bottom 1. The back piece 4 is now folded upward at right angles to the bottom 1 into the position shown in Fig. 6. Next the short end pieces 8 and 9 are folded at right angles to the piece 4. The bottom 1 and the

2, 3, 4, 8, and 9 may new be carried downward into the outer casing or portion of the box. The

6 and 7 are then folded at right angles to the inner cover 5 permitting these ends to enter the spaces between the parts 2 and 8, and between the parts 3 and 9 when the portion 5 is moved downward into the position shown in Fig. 5 over the articles 21.

In order to use the box, or container, for display purposes the operation is as follows:

16, 18 and folded upwardly and rearwardly into the positions shown in Fig. 6; the piece 5 which may be termed an inner cover or lid is swung upward into its open position; the bottom 1 is now elevated into the inclined position; and retained in this position by inserting the

13 and 15 in the foldable bracing members. The small boxes 21 are now conveniently displayed in an inclined position. and the inner surface of the inner closure lid or piece 5 is readily observed and the contents of the packages 21 advertised by suitable posters or reading matter which may be printed thereon.

In order to close the box the reverse operations, only are necessary.

The invention has been disclosed herein, in an embodiment at present preferred, for illustrative purposes but the scope of the invention is defined by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description.

Vhat I claim is:

1. A display box, comprising. front. end and rear upright walls forming a substantially rectangular enclosure. a box body hinged to one of said walls and foldable within the walls, said box body being liftable into an inclined position for display purposes, and means carried by the box body adapted to overlie and engage two opposite walls of the rectangular enclosure to support the box body in said inclined position and prevent it from tilting.

2. A display box, comprising, front, end and rear upright walls forming a substantially rectangular enclosure, :1 box bod hinged to the front wall and foldable within the walls, said box body being liftable into an inclined position for display purposes, and flaps carried by the box body adjacent oppositeends thereof and adapted to engage with the adjacent end Walls of said enclosure to support the box body in inclined position.

3. A display box, com rising, front, end and rear upright walls orming a substantially rectangular enclosure, a box body wardly to overlie the adjacent end walls of wardly to overlie the adjacent end walls of said enclosure to support the box body in inclined position.

4. A display box, comprising, front, end and rear upright walls forming a substantially rectangular enclosure, a box body hinged to the front wall and foldable within the walls, said box body being liftable into an inclined position for display purposes, and flaps carried by the box body adjacent opposite ends thereof and foldable outsaid enclosure to support the box body in inclined position, said flaps and end walls having a tongue and slot engagement.

5. A display box, comprising, front, end and rear upright walls forming a substantially rectangular enclosure, a box body hinged to the front wall and foldable within the walls, said box body being liftable into an inclined position for display purposes, a cover hinged to the rear wall of said box body and foldable flaps on opposite ends of said cover adapted to overlie the end walls of said enclosure and become engaged therewith to support the box body in inclined position.

6. A display box, comprising, front, end and rear upright walls forming a substantially rectangular enclosure, 2. box body hinged to the front wall and foldable within the walls, said box body being liftable into an inclined position for display purposes, a cover hinged to the rear wall of said box body, a foldable flap on opposite ends of said cover adapted to overlie the end walls of said enclosure and become engaged therewith to support the box body in inclined position, and an outer cover hinged to the rear wall of said enclosure, said covers when open and when the box body is in inclined I position arranged to interengage so that the outer cover acts to brace the first named cover. 4

7. A display box, comprising, an open frame having front, rear and end walls, a cover hinged to one of the walls, foldable bracing members connecting the cover with adjacent walls and forming upward extensions of such walls, a box body hinged to the remaining wall and movable to a position between the bracing members, and means carried by the box body to engage said bracing members and support the box body in inclined position.

8. A display box, comprising, an open frame having front, rear and end walls, a cover hinged to one of the walls, foldable bracing members connecting the cover with adjacent walls and forming upward extensions of such walls, a box body hinged to the remaining wall and movable to a position between the bracing members, slots provided in the upper edges of the bracing members, an inner cover hinged to the box body, and flaps on the inner cover to engage in said slits and support the box body in inclined position.

9. A foldable box comprising an outer casing, a cover therefor, foldable bracing mem bers located between the cover and the casing and having slits therein, an inner-movable receptacle in the outer casing, a cover for the receptacle and serving to retain the receptacle in a raised position when its lower edge is inserted in the slits, as described.

10. A foldable box comprising an outer casing, a cover therefor, foldable bracing members located between the cover and the casin and having slits therein, an inner mova le receptacle in the outer casing, a cover having wing portions serving to retain the receptacle in a raised position when its lower edge is inserted in the slits, as described.
