Description

.ay '13, 1924.; mwzams Y J. W. MORRIS WIRE FENCE CLAMP Filed Nov. 11. 1922 jnue'nioz I J Morris Patented May 13, 1%24.
JESSIE W. MORRIS, F OKEAN, ARKANSAS.
n-rnn'cn CLAMP.
Application filed November 11, 1922. Serial No. 600,378.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, dnssm W. Monnis,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Okean, in the county of Randolph and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire- Fence Clamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention has relation to appliances useful in the erection of wire fencing whereby the latter may be uniformly stretched without distortion so as to present a regular and even appearance.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application,
Figure 1 is a side view of a wire fence clamp embodying the invention,
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the cam levers.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings bylike reference characters.
The clamp comprises two members 1 and 2, between which the wire fence or other article is adapted to be clamped. These members may be of any length and constructed of any preferred material and usually consist of bars or strips of wood. Studs 3 are attached to the member 1 and project laterally therefrom and are formed in a side adjacent the outer end with a recess 4:. The studs 3 are preferably of metal and may be fastened to the member 1 in any convenient and substantial way.
Posts 5 are attached to the member 2 and project laterally therefrom and pivotally support cam levers 6 which are adapted to coact with the studs 3. Openings 7 are formed in the member 2 to receive the studs 3, thereby maintaining the members 1 and 2 in operative position. Each of the cam levers 6 is formed in a side with a recess whereby to provide a lateral flange 8 which is adapted to enter the recess 4 of a stud 3, whereby to draw the members 1 and 2 together and clamp the article placed there-- between. A plurality of openings 9 are formed in each of the cam levers 6 and are adapted to register with an opening 10 of a post 5 whereby to receive a pin 11 to hold the cam lever in the required adjusted position. There may be as many studs 3 and posts 5 as found most advantageous, the number depending upon the length of the clamp and the required distance apart of the clamp devices to insure a firm gripping of the wire fence or other article placed between the clamp members 1 and 2.
What is claimed is:
A device of the character specified comprising two complemental members, one of said members having posts thereon fitting openings in the other member, said posts being notched at their outer ends, posts on the last-mentioned member adjacent to said openings and offset laterally and longitudinally thereof, a lever fulcrumed on each of the last-mentioned posts on the side thereof adjacent to the first-mentioned posts, and a lateral cam-shaped flange on each lever adapted to engage the notches in the firstmentioned posts.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JESSIE W. MORRIS. Witnesses:
