ALBINI GARRIERE. OF BUTTE CITY, CALIFORNIA.
WIRE-TIGHTENER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBINI GARRIERE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Butte City, in the county of Glenn and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVire-Tighteners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.
This invention relates to improvements in wire tighteners to be used in connection with wire machines, the object of the invention being to produce a means for holding a plurality of wires tight while being stretched, whereby they can all be uniformly stretched at one time as is necessary, especially in stretching and setting made up or manufactured wire fences, such as the Page fence or the like, the advantage aimed at being to produce a means which will so hold the wires without the necessity of using bolts or other structure requested.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device, and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed.
These objects I accomplish by such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a front elevation showing my improved wire tightener as it appears when in use. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of an eccentric binding roller. Fig. 3 is a perspec tive view of the complete device. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a tightening bar. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of a wrench.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings 1 designates a fence post and 2 a wire fence consisting of a plurality of wires such as a ready made fence or the like. In order to properly stretch this fence it is necessary to Specification of Letters Patent.

hold all the wires thereon uniformly tight and in proper position and this I accomplish by the following structure, viz: A main supporting beam 3 carries spaced pairs of projecting arms 4 in the outer end of which are freely turnable pins 5 spaced from the member 3 carrying eccentric rollers 6 hav ing central squared shoulders 7. In practice the wires 2 are placed against the memher 3 and a removable binding bar 8 is in-- serted between the rollers 6 and said wires 2 and then a wrench 9 is employed to engage the shoulders 7 to turn the eccentric portion of the rollers 6 against said binding bar 8 which causes such bar to bind the said wires rigidly to said member 3 and then the grapple hook 10 of a wire stretcher 11 is engaged with said members 3 and 8 to pull the same to properly stretch the wires 2 across the post 1 prior to fastening the same to such post, the said wires being, during such stretching operation, held uni- The member 8 may be provided with transverse grooves 12 to guide the action of the rollers 6 and also with vertical grooves 13 to give room 'for the movement of the wrench 9. When the stretching at one point is complete, the rollers 6 can be readily and quickly released and the member 8 withdrawn leaving the device free to be attached to the wires 2 at another point.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfils the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim asnew and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A device of the character described comprising a bar, a plurality of pairs of projecting arms carried by said bar, rollers having pins mounted in an eccentric manner on their ends, said pins being disposed in said arms, square shoulders disposed centrally on said rollers, a removable bar adapted to be disposed between said roller and In testimony whereof I aflix my signature said first named bar, sald removable bar in presence of two wltnesses. havlng a plurallt-y of transverse grooves adapted to register 'With said rollers, said ALBINI CARRIERE" removable bar also having vertical grooves VVit-nesses: adapted to register With said square shoul- WV.
