FRANK C. MELSHA, OF PINE CITY, MINNESOTA.
LADDER BRACKET.
Application filed July 24, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK C. MnLsHA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pine City, in the county of Pine and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ladder Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to attachments for ladders and has for its object the provision ofa novel step designed to be secured above any desired round of the ladder to serve as a platform upon which a workman may stand securely, the platform being flat and having the great advantage of relieving the strain which comes upon the arch of the foot when a person stands upon an ordinary ladder round.
An important object is the provision of a device of this character which will extend horizontally when the ladder is tilted against a building or the like.
An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, easy to apply, eiiicient and durable in use, and a general improvement in the art.
WVith the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is front elevation of a ladder having my device applied thereto Figure 2 is a side view showing the ladder tilted against a building and Figure 3 is a cross section showing my device in plan.
Referring more particularly to the drawings the letter A designates the sides of a ladder which includes theusual rounds B. In carrying out my invention I provide a bracket or platform device which may be constructed of wood or metal and which includes a main or body portion 10 of a length to be received between the sides A of the ladder and formed at its ends with extensions 11 which engage against the faces of the sides. The device further includes a strip or bar 12 which is disposed adjacent the edge of the body 10 and which engages against the opposite face, that is, the rear Serial No. 577,147.
sides of the sides A of the ladder. The strip or bar 12 is secured to the body 10 by means of bolts 13 which pass through the body and the strip and which carry wing nuts 14-.
The edges of the body 10. extensions 11 and strip 12 are inclined as shown so that when the device is in place upon a ladder it will extend horizontally when the ladder is tilted against a building as shown in Fig- By removing the wing nuts 14 the bar or strip 12 may be removed and the device placed at some other location in the ure 2.
length of the ladder.
In the use of the device it will be seen that when it is clamped in position it will pro vide a platform upon which a painter or other workman may stand in comfort and com- It is to be noted that the device has the advantage of rendering it unnecessary to support the weight on the arches of the feet as is the case when standparative safety.
ing upon the ordinary round.
- From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided a simply constructed and inexpensive ladder bracket which is easily applied and which will efficiently perform all of the functions for which it is intended.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention I claim FRANK C. lWE
mature.
