EAST CLEVELAITD, oHIo.
VSTEPL'ADDER.
Application filed May 14,
This invention relates to step ladders and more particularly to the brackets adapted to support a board, providin by this means a step halfway between the regular steps of'a 5 step ladder, thereby aflording facilities for the proper altitudes for persons paper-hang ing or painting ceilings, etc.
It is one of the objects of the present invention to provide an extremely simple,
l practicable, substantial and easily operable means of obtaining a step halfway between the regular steps of a step ladder.
An important object of this invention is to provide a bracket adapted to support a board forming a step halfway between'the regular steps of a step ladder.
Another object of this invention is to provide a bracket formed so as to eliminate any relative rotation between the bracket and the board it supports.
This invention also provides a bracket formed so as to eliminate relative rotation between the brackets and the supporting step.
With these objects in view, the invention is embodied in preferable form in the construction and arrangement hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bracket, and
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a-step ladder showing the brackets in place and 1926. Serial N0. 109,173.
supporting a board forming a step halfway between the regular steps of a step bladder. 3::
Referring to Figure '1, 1 indicates the bracket, formed from one piece of metal into a rectangular shape having opening 2 wide enough to slip over the step of a step ladder, and a horizontal width suflicient to straddle 40 the step. 7
Referring to Figure 2, 1 is the bracket supported by the step 2 of the step ladder 3, and at is the board which is carried in brackets l, forming a step halfway between step 2 and the next regular step of the step ladder. 5 is the board supported by step 4 and forms a walking plank such as is used by painters or paperhangers.
Having thus described my invention, What y I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The combination of a step ladder including a plurality of fiat steps, and a removable half step comprising a pair of U-shaped supports depending from one step, each including a pair of supporting legs and a lower connecting portion, the upper ends of the legs extending inwardly for engagement with the opposite side portions of the step and spaced apart a distance to permit the support to be positioned on the step, and a tread piece mounted at its ends on the connecting portions of the supports.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ALLEN T. HAYWOOD.
