Be it known that 1, None JoHNsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of St. Louis and S ate of Mi souri, have invented a new and useful lim-- provement in Fxercising Apparatus. of which he following is a specification.

My invention relates to exercising apparatus and has for its principal object to devise a turning bar or other gymnastic apparatus that can be easily and quickly se cured in position in a doorway or the like. that will have securing means that will not deface the woodwork. that is adapted for use in doorways of different sizes and that can be easily taken down when desired.

Fig. 1 is plan view of a turning bar embodying my invention, the door frame being indicated in section;

Fig. 4 is a similar view of the other of said uprights.

Resting on the floor and disposed against the sides of a door frame 1 are uprights 2 that are provided with holes 3 that are adapted to receive the end portions of a turning bar 4.

The uprights 2 may be provided with hearing strips 5 adapted to contact with the door frame 1 and afford suitable bearing for the uprights. Preferably said bearing strips are faced with leather or the like 6 so that they will not mar the wood-Work. The bearing strips stop short of the bottom of the uprights so as to accommodate any projecting portions near the bottom of the door frame.

Suitable clamps 7 are provided for securing the uprights 2 in position. Preferably i use clamps of substantially Ll-shape, one end S of which is adapted to bear against a face of the door frame 1, extending through the space between the door frame and the door (the position of the door is indicated. at 9 in Fig. 1). Slidably mounted on the U-shaped clamp 7 is a projecting arm that is substantially parallel with the arms of the U-shaped clamp 7. and is adapted to extend into a hole 3 of an upright 2 to hold said upright in position against said door frame. Preferably said arm 10 is recessed arrn'na'rus.

to engage the upright. A screw 11 is disposed in a threaded hole provided therefor in the other arm 12 of said L -shaped clamp and is adapted tobe turned to cause said movable arm 10 to engage the upright closeand hold it against the door frame. The portions of the clamps 7 that contact with woodwork may be provided with a facing 13 of leather-or other material that will not injure the woodwork or the paint thereon.

The holes 3 in one of said uprights are non-circular (preferably square) and are adapted to fit the reduced end portion 14 of the turning bar. The end portion 14 of the turning bar is provided witha slot that is adapted to receive a tapered locking pin 15. Thus the turning bar is held against endwise movement by reason of the fact that the shoulder 16 formed by the decrease in size of the bar a on the turning bar abuts against one face of the upright and the locking pin 15 abuts against the side thereof. The holes in the other upright are circular and are adapted to receive the circular turning bar 4.

The fact that the holes in one of said uprights are non-circular and that the end of the turning bar is shaped to fit said holes prevents said turning bar from rotating while in use. lhe apparatus may be used in doorways of different sizes. The apparatus may be easily and quickly dismounted, it does not mar or injure the woodwork and it is strong and simple in construction and not likely to give way when in use.

If desired, turning rings or swings or the like may be suspended from th turning bar. It is obvious that numerous changes may be made without departing from my invention and I do not wish to be limited to my precise construction shown.

What I claim is:

1. In combination, uprights adapted to be disposed against the face of the wall on either side of a doorway with their ends resting on the floor, said uprights being provided with a plurality of pairs of alining holes, an exercising bar or the like having its respective end portions disposed in a pair of said alining holes, the holes of one of said uprights being non-circular and an end portion of said bar being shaped to fit said holes. and tie holes of the other upright being large enough for the other end of the bar to slide endwise therein, and clamps adapted to removabl hold said uprights in position against the sides .of the doorway,

whereby said bar may be shifted at will 2. In combination, uprights adapted to rest on a floor at each side of a doorway, bearing strips on said uprights stopping short of the floor and bearing against the face of the Wall, each of said uprights being provided with holes in alinement with holes in the other upright, an exercising harm the like having its respective end portions disposed in a pair of said alining holes, and clamps adapted to removably hold said uprights in position against the Wall outside of the doorway,
