DRAWING APPARATUS.
Application filed March 8, 1923. SeriaINo. 623,577. I
To all whom may concern:
Be it known that I, ALroNs R-EMBTELIN SKI, a citizen of Poland, residing at South River, in the county of Mi ddlesex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in devices used by draftsmen and artists for quickly and accurately outlining and delineating objects and has as one of its objects the provision of a portable apparatus capable of being placed upon a table or stand at any convenient angle.
A further purpose is to provide means for supporting the material upon which the drawing is made in a commodious manner.
Another aim is to produce means by which lines may be drawn lengthwise and crosswise of the apparatus at any point thereover, the guiding elements being readilyv adjustable.
Other objects reside in the means for car rying articles used in connection with the stand and holding them in adjustment.
These and like other aims are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of a stand made in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a side view of the same.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of the frame of the stand.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary front view of the pull rod in detail.
The apparatus consists of an open rectangular frame, made of wood or metal as may be preferred, the same having side elements 8 and 9 and end or top and bottom elements 10 and 11 respectively.
These elements are secured at their corners in a rigid manner and are supported by an easel-like leg 12 pivoted to a lug 13 fixed to the rear side of the member 10 and held in extended angular position by a flat spring 32 attached to the element 10.
A plurality of perforations 14: are formed in rows near the inner edges of each frame member in which are secured cords or wires 15 which serve as a support or backing for the plate or sheet on which the drawing is to be made, these wires showing through the material which is thus divided off into a plurality of squares in the manner of section lined paper.
A pair of rods 16 are fixed in parallel in the sides 8 and 9 to extend longitudinally thereof and similar rods 17 are arranged relative to the elements 10 and 11.
A flat bar 18 has its ends coiled, as at 19, around the rods 16 to slide freely on them and is provided near its center with a rod 20 guided in a perforate lug 21 fixed to the front of the element 10 and having a looped eye 20, by which the bar may be moved over the surface of the frame and lines drawn laterally over its entire surface by using the bar as a guide.
Another bar 22 is coiled at its ends 23 to slidably engage the rods 17, the bar having a pull rod 24 guided in a lug 25 fixed on the frame element 9 and provided with an extending looped handle 26 by which itmay be moved in drawing lines over the material on the stand.
A pair of lugs 27, fixed in the face of the frame element 10, are adapted to receive the inturned hooked ends of the rods 28, these i being of spring material and fixed at these outer ends in a cylinder 29 slidably carrying a short rectangular bar 30 having a head 33..
This head is drilled transversely to receive a rod 32 having a ring- 33 at one end, this ring acting as a support for a light, lens, or tray upon which may be dis layed the working tools used in making the draw ing, the rod being secured when in adjustment by the set screw 34.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a neat, commodious and practical device for the purpose has been described, and that the supporting elements 28 to 34 inclusive, may be removed at any time by merely pressing the elements 28 outwardly to disengage them from the lugs.
Paper or the like may be secured by the frame elements in any preferred way, as by thumb tacks, and it is apparent that straight lines at any given parallel distance can be instantly and accurately drawn, the operator having recourse to the numerals or scales appearing upon the bars 18 and 22.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s:
1. A sketching stand comprising a frame, 2 a series of wires fixed in said frame to cross each other at right angles at uniform distances apart, guide rods fixed in said frame along the edges thereof, and bars slidably mounted on said rods.
2. A sketching stand comprising a frame, a support therefor, an open meshed support for the drawing material, vertical and horizontal bars slidably mounted on said frame, and means for manually actuating said bars, said bars having scales indicating the 10 amount of movement imparted to them.
In'witness whereof I have afi ixed my signature.
ALFONS REMBIELINSKI.
