Description

April 22 1924.,
1,491,303 F. HICKS SACK TIE Filed July 27. 1923 WITNESS:
INVENTOR 542mb I AITORNEY Patented Apr. 22, 1924.
PATENT FF'IE FRED HICKS, OF ROCKLAND, VJISCONSIN.
SACK TIE.
Application filed July 27, 1923. Serial No. 654,219.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED HICKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockland, in the county of La Crosse and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sack Ties, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to a means for tying the mouths of bags or sacks without the employment of cords and the inconvenient and unreliable method of knotting such cords.
A further object is to produce a sack tie which may, if desired, remain permanently fixed on the sack, and which includes a chain having a hook at one end to be engaged by a link of the said chain when the same is brought tightly around the mouth of the ba To the attainment of the foregoing reference is to be had to the drawing which accompanies and which forms part of this description.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a view showing a sack tied in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a View of the improvement. In carrying out my invention I make use of a chain 1 having one of its end links provided with a ring 2 and its other end link provided with a hook 3.
Inward of the hook there is centrally secured to one of the links of the chain 1 an attaching pin 4. The pin is of the character commonly known as safety pins, and in operation the same pierces the sack 5 and has its pointed end received in the shield or guard 6 on one end of the body portion of said pin. The ring 2 materially assists the operator in properly bringing the chain around the neck or other portion of the sack to be tied so that a desired link may be brought into the hook and thereby effectively seal the bag. The pin being removably attached to the sack permits of the device being employed on any desired number of sacks or bags and if desired the tying device may remain a permanent fixture on a bag or sack.
Having described the invention, I claim A tie for sacks comprising a chain having a ring at one end, a link at its opposite end, and a safety pin centrally secured on the chain inward of the hook and designed to engage a sack, and said hook adapted to engage one of the links of the chain when the latter is brought around the sack.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
FRED HICKS.
