eta-amuse. MACHINE.
Application filed m 26,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GU'STAV VENZKE, a citizen of Germany, residing at GhemnitZ, in the State of Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Centrifugal Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in centrifugal machines, and more particularly in centrifugal machines having the rotary drum mounted on a horizontal axis, and comprising a scraper for detaching the dried material from the circumferential wall of the drum. The object of the improv'ements is to provide a machine in which the scraper can be readily removed, and with this object in view my invention consists in mounting the scraper together with the bearing of the drum located at the open side thereof on a slide, so that the scraper and the bearing can be retracted from the drum through the open end wall thereof.
In order that my invention be more clearly understood an example embodying the same has been shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Fig. 1, is an elevation partly in section showing my improved machine, the lid of the casing closing the end wall thereof being removed to show the scraper in inoperative position and ready for being retracted from the drum,
Fig. 2, is a similar elevation with the said lid applied to the casing and the scraper in Working position, the figure also showing the mechanism for setting the scraper in scraping and inoperative positions,
Fig. 3, is a vertical section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2,
Fig. 4, is a detail view showing the scraper and the slide carrying the same, and
Fig. 5, is a vertical section similar to that shown in Fig. 3 and showing the scraper and the shaft bearing retracted from the drum.
In the example shown in the figures the centrifugal machine comprises a casing consisting of a bottom art 1, a removable top part 2, and a lid 3 a apted to close the open side of the part 2-. Within the casing a drum 4 is rotatable which is keyed to a shaft 1922". Serial No. 641,777.
5 mounted in bearings 6, 7, and 8, said bearlngs being disposed respectively on an upright 9 rising from the base plate of the machine, a bracket 10 providedonthe part 1, and a. slide 11 disposed on a guide way 12 secured to the part 1 and projecting into the inner part of the drum 4. The slide 11, is adapted to be shifted longitudinally of the guide way and with its left hand part into and out of the drum 4 by means of a screwtlireaded spindle rotatably but nonshiftably mounted in flanges 12 of the guide way and screwing in aflnut 13 secured in a bore of a flange 14 of the slide 11, the construction of the right hand end of the shafth being such thatwhen retracting the slide 11 the bearing 8 dis'engages the shaft. The spindle 15 carries a hand wheel 40. Rotation is imparted to the drum 5 by means of a pulley 16, a loose pulley 17 being provided as isfcommon in the art.
At the end adapted to be projected into the drum 5 the slide 11 carries an arm 18 and a lug 19. On the arm 18 a rocker 20 is mounted which carries at one end a scraping blade ,21 anda guard 22 and at its opposite end a weighted body 23 balancing thescraper and the guard. The lug 19 provides. a support for the rocker 20 in the inoperative position thereof. To the rocker a pivot bolt 24 is secured which projects through a curved slot 25 made in the wall of the lid '3 and which has a link 26 removably jointed thereto. At its opposite end the link is jointed to an arm 27 keyed to a shaft 28 mounted in bearings 29 provided on the circumferential wall of the top part 2. To the shaft 28 a worm gearing 30 is keyed which is engaged by. a worm 31 provided on a. shaft 32 adapted to be rotated from the shaft 5 by means of helical gear wheels 33 and 34. By means of the mechanism so far described the scraper is gradually shifted upon rotation of the drum from the position shown in Fig. 1 outwardly for detaching the dried material. The link 26 is adapted to be readily disconnected from the pivot bolt 24 for throwing the scraper out of operation while drying the material. As my invention does not relate to the construction of the operating mechanism of the scraper I deem it not necessary to give a more detailed description of the said mechanism.
To the slide 11 a chute 36 is secured which is adapted to collect the material detached by the scraper and to pass the same into a hopper 37 as is known in the art.
The operation of the machine is as follows: For separating the liquid from the material supplied to the centrifugal machine the scraper is disconnected from the operating mechanism and shaft 5 and set in the position shown in Fig. 1 in which it is supported on the lug 19. After the materialhas been dried by the rotation of the drumv 5' the scraper operating mechanism is again connected to the scraper so that the scraper gradually moves outwardly for detaching the dried material which is passed through the hopper 37, as isknown in the art.
If it is desired to retract the scraper from the drum, the link 26 is disconnected from the bolt 24:, the lid 3 is removed from the part 2 of the casing, the scraper is set in the position shown in Fig. 1, and the hand wheel is operated for retracting the slide 11 together with the bearing 8 and the scraper mechanism away from the drum and into the position shown in Fig. 5.
IVhile in describing the invention reference has been made to aparticular example embodying the same I wish it to be understood that my invention is not limited to the construction shown in the drawing, and that various changes may be made in the general arrangement of the apparatus and the construction of its parts without departing from the invention.
claim:
1. In a centrifugal machine, the combination, with a rotary drum open at one side,
and bearings therefor one located at the open side thereof and removably away from the drum, of a scraper mechanism within said drum and removable away therefrom, and means to remove said reinoyable bearing and scraper away from the drum.
2. In a centrifugal machine, the combination, with a rotary drum open at one side, and hearings therefor one located at the open side thereof and removable away from the drum, of a scraper mechanism within said drum and removabie away therefrom, and Common means to remove said removable bearing and scraper "from the drum. I
3. In a centrifugal maohinathe combination, with a rotary drum open at one side, and bearings therefor one located at the open side thereof and slidable away from the drum, of a scraper mechanism within said drum and slidable away therefrom, and means to remove said slidable bearing and scraper away fromthe drum.
4. In a centrifugal machine, the combination, with a rotary drum open atone side, andbearings therefor one located at the open side thereof, of a. scraper mechanism, a slide on which said scraper mechanism and bearing located at the open side of the drum are mounted, and means to retract said slide away from the drum.
In testimony whereof I hereunto'a'liix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
