v H. J. BucHsBAUM LOCKET F'iled Feb. 21. 1921 Patente Apr. 15, 1924.
iTED STATES HERBERT J'. BUCHSBAU'M, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
LOCKET.
Application led February 21, 1921.
This invention relates to lockets and more particularly to a locket having means at opposite ends thereof for securing the same on a band, or other flexible member.
It is a purpose of this'invention to provide a locket comprising a box-like member having an open side providedV with means at opposite ends thereof for securing the same on a band or other flexible member, said box-like member being provided with a pair of pivoted superposed leaves hinged thereto adapted to be moved into position to close the open side of said boxlike member, both sides of said leaves being adapted to receive illustrations, insignia, or other ornamentation thereon.
It is a further purpose of the invention to provide a locket comprising a body member having a rear plate, provided with side flanges in which a kpair of clamping levers are pivotally mounted at the opposite ends thereof, said clamping' members being adapted to be turned'toy such a position that a band or other iiexible supporting member be passed through said locket between the same and said rearplate when in one position and being adapted to clamp said flexible member between the same and said rear plate when in another position.
It is still a further purpose of the invention to provide a locket of the above character with angular clamping levers `having overlapping portions by means of which they are moved into and out of clamping positions, said operating portions being in the form of leavesadapted to lit between the side Hanges of said rear plate and extending substantially at right angles to the gripping portions of said levers, whereby a box-like member is formed when the clamping levers are in clamping position, the to 'of which is opened upon mov-l ing said c amping levers to unclamping position. Y
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the description of Serial No. 446,931.
the accompanying drawings showing one form that my invention may take, proceeds. However, I desire to have it distinctly understoodthat I do not intend to limit myself to the exact details shown or described in the specification, but that I intend to include as part of my invention all such obvious changes and modifications as would Voccur to a' person skilled in this art and as would fall within the scope of the claims.
In thefdrawings:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the locket showing the same applied to a flexible supporting band,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof,
Fi 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Flg. 2, showing the locket in open position in dotted lines,
Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line L /1, Fig. V3.
Referring in detail to the drawings the improved locket, which is commercially known as a Waldemar, is shown as being mounted on a flexible member 5 and comprises a base plate 6 having the side flanges 7 and 8 extending upwardly therefrom substantially at right angles thereto. VIn the drawings the flexible supporting member 5 is shown as comprising a pair of bands or strips, but a single band or any other flexible supporting device can be used for the locket. The fianges 7 and 8 are provided with suitable openings through which extend the pivot members 9' and 9 of the leaves 10 and 11 thus securing the same to the base member pivotally vbetween the side flanges thereof. These pivot members may be either integral with the leaves lOfand 11 or may be separate pivot pins as desired. The members 10 and 11 are provided with substantially right angularly extending end portions 12 and 13 and the clamping members-having arms that extend substantially at right angles to each other that are thus formed are suitably strengthened at the angle thereof as at '13, 13', the enlarged portion being adapted to receive a separate pivot pin if desired. It will be seen that the right angular end portion 13 is longer than the end portion 12 and that the pivot 9 is spaced a greater distance from the base plate 6 than the pivot 9 whereby the members l() and 11 are adapted to fit over Aeach other as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, and the member 11 is adapted to be moved so as to be flush with the top edges of the anges 1 -and 8 when in the position shown in Figs. 3 and 4 in full lines, -thus forming a substantially rectangular box-like member that provides a space 14 in the same. The distance between the flanges 7 and 8 is slightly less than the width of the member 1l, thus when the.
member l0 has been swung into the position shown in full lines in Fig. 3 and the member 11 is swung into the full line position in Fig. 3, the member 1l will be held in this position dueto the tight fit between the same and the side flanges 7 and 8 the members .7 and 8 being slightly sprung laterally when the member 11 is forced between them into the position shown in Fig. 4 andthe member 11 will hold the member 10 inthis position. When the members 10 and '11 are in the dotted position shown in Fig. 4 the locket will be open and the same will be free to slide along the flexible member f5. order to clamp the locket in position on the flexible V' member the member .10 "is lfirst moved from the dotted to the vfullline position in Fig. 3, thus clamping fthe l'oclet to the flexible member Vat one end thereofand then the member llris moved from the 'dotted tothe full line position, thus clamping the other end of the locket to the'band 5 and holding the member l() in clamping position. The members l() and 11 are preferably ornamented in any desired manner, any suitable illustrations being placed Aon 'the opposite faces of each of these members. It will thus be seen that a locket isprovided that has a pair of leavespivoted to the vbase member thereof which are ornamented on their opposite faces, 'and which are adapted to be turned so as to 4be `in overlappingposition, and that this locket ,is yprovided with means for securing the -same to a flexible supporting member at the opposite end thereof, said means :being preferably in the form of clamps one arm of each of the clamps forming the leaves that are pivoted between the base member flanges.
Having thus described myinvention what I claim and desire to secureby U. S. Letters Patent is: Y
