To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. SECOR, of the village and town of Phelps, in the county of Ontario and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pruning-Shears; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a representation of the pruningshears open, and Fig. 2 a represel'ltation of the same closed.
A O and B D, Fig. l, represent the angular blades, with beveled cutting-edges on eaoh blade, which draw to a center, E, Fig. 2, as the blades are closed. F H and G H, Fig'. 2, represent the beveled cutting-edges on the outside of the blades, which close when the handles are opened.
My invention consists in constructing a pair of shears with angular blades, having four beveled inside cutting-edges, drawing to a center as the handles of the shears are closed, while the pointed end of each blade forms an obtuse angle with the main part thereof, and is likewise beveled on the back, forming additionally two outside cutting-edges, which close upon each other, operating,` as supplementary shears when the handles are opened, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
The cutting-edges A O B D hold firmly the limb of the tree or other object interposed between them, and drawing' to a Center, E, Fig. 2, as ythe blades are closed out the object on both sides at the same time.
The Cutting-edges F H G H on the outside of the blades are intended to out smaller limbs, branches, and twigs not requiring great force. There is also a suitable steel spring interposed between and attached to the inside of thel handles.
That I elaim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
