Description

C. B. HUNTING.
Washing-Machines.
- mf (/M/z@ M.;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHESTER B. HUNTING, OF CLINTON, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,@27, dated March 24, 1874; application filed January 30, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, CHESTER B. HUNTING, of Clinton, county of De Witt and State of Illinois, have invented certain Improvements in 'Vashing-ll/Iachiues. The following descrip tion, taken in connection with the accompanying plate of drawings herein after referred to, forms a full and exact speciiication, wherein are set forth the nature and principles of the invention, by which the same may be distinguished from others of a similar cla-ss, together with such parts thereof as are claimed as new and are desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States.
My invention relates to Washing-machines; and the nature thereof consists in certain improvements in. the construction of the same, hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates my invention and forms a part of the specification thereof, corresponding parts being designated by similar letters, Figure lis a longitudinal vertical section. Fig. 2 is a detached view of one of the concave rubbers.
In the said drawing, the boX, designated A, is Water-tight, with beveled ends B, and a water-tight central partition, C. The removable rubber beds D are of such a size as to fit within the receptacles a, and are intended to be Water-tight, except at their centers, Where an opening, d, is located, through Which the dirt descends. The vibrating rubber E is rotated upon the shaft F, Which is secured to the arms H. The said arms H are pivoted to the inner sides of the box in such a manner as to be al lo'wed to describe the arc of a semicircle. They rest upon the projection I, and support the vibrating rubber over the center of either of the compartments a, Whichever is to be used.
The advantages of this construction are obvious. The compartments may be used alternately. One of them may be arranged for usinga small quantity of Water, and the other a large quantity, or one may be arranged for rinsing.
Having thus described the construction and operation of my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the box A provided with compartments a a', of the reversible rubber E, shaft F, and arms H, as and for the purposes described. l
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 3d day of November, 1873.
CHESTER B. HUNTING.
