Description

1. H. HUNTER.
Hog-Troughs.
Patented Oct. 13,1874.
N0.I55,95I.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH H. HUNTER, OF ADAIR, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOG-TROUGHS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,95 1, dated October 13, 1874; application filed June 25, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. HUNTER, of Adair, in the county of McDonough and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Hog-Trough and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip' tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a plan view 5 Fig. 2, a side view; and Fig 3, a vertical transverse section.
This invention' has relation to feedtroughs for hogs and other animals; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts having reference to the employment of a double-hopper shaped detachable guard, provided with longitudinal and transverse partitions, and a pivoted reversible feed-box, all as hereinafter more fully set forth.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A designates the feed box or trough proper, pivoted at each end to the end pieces B, and constructed with its floor 0 located about midway between the upper and lower edges of its side pieces I), so as to provide two feed-receptacles, to be used alternately, according as either becomes filthy or unfit to hold food. D designates the guard, consisting of the central longitudinal partition d and transverse partitions d, the latter being slotted to intersect and receive the former, and notched at their outer edges to fit the trough. The edges of said partitions are beveled to conduct the food to the trough, those of the transverse partitions being also inclined inwardly and furnished with ways or inclines c for the same purpose. The object of the partitions is to furnish a cell. for each animal, and thereby prevent waste. The guard is secured to the end piecesB by means of pins or pegs c, which are to be taken out to allow the guard to be removed and the trough reversed.
Having fully described my invention, I claim 1. The pivoted reversible feed-receptacle A, in combination with a teed-trough, substantially as described.
2. The double guard D, consisting of the central longitudinal partition d and intersecting transverse partitions d, the latter having their upper edges inwardly inclined and supporting the ways e, as shown and described.
3. The combination of the detachable guard D, pivoted reversible trough A, and end pieces B, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of June, 1874.
JOSEPH H. HUNTER.
