  • My invention consists in the following' parts and combinations, as hereinafter specified and claimed, wherein A is a piece of pasteboard, tar-board, or papcr-nmch, or other equivalent material, suitably formed to iit into the package to which it is to be applied. Upon one or both faces of this piece A are pasted sheets of manila paper or any suitable flexible material or fabric, B, thus constituting a flexible edge to the head A. C is the cask, barrel, or package. D D are hoops for retaining the head A.
  • My invention- is applied as follows, (see Figs. 2 and 3:) The edge of the iiexible material B, which projects beyond the head A, is properly crimped, substantially as shown in Fig. 2. The piece A is then forced into its proper position in the package O, andthe edges of the fabric B bent outward over the rim of the package O, after which it is secured by the hoops D D', or their equivalents. If deemed necessary, a coating of-l any suitable water-proof orair-tight substance maybe painted or applied over the head A and its iiexible edge B, for obvious purposes.

IMPROVEMENT IN HEADS FOR PAPER BARRELS.
` Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,824, dated March 24, 1874 application filed January 23, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE A. HOUSTON, of Beloit, in the county oi' Rock and State ot' \Viseonsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heads for Paper Barrels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specitication.
My invention relates to an improvement in heads for casks, barrels, or other similai` packages.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a sec- Jfion of my invention; Fig. 2, a plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 the same as applied.
My invention consists in the following' parts and combinations, as hereinafter specified and claimed, wherein A is a piece of pasteboard, tar-board, or papcr-nmch, or other equivalent material, suitably formed to iit into the package to which it is to be applied.
