UNITED EQTA'EES RUFUS C. EYNDS, 01E BROOKLYN, NEKT YORK.
OBNAMENTING DEVICE.
Application filed February 21., 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUFUS C. HYNDS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ornamenting Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention r lates to ornamenting devices.
The general object of the invention is the provision of a simple and eflicient method of mounting ornaments on a support to form clusters presenting various appearances and simulating certain natural objects.
This object is accomplished by providing a vertical member which serves as an anchor member, and rotatably and slidably mounting on the vertical member a plurality of arms each carrying an ornament so that the ornaments may be set about the vertical member forming the support to present any desired arrangement or the ornaments to form different clusters.
This and other objects of the invention will be more clearly understood from the following detailed description and accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a cluster formed to present a certain appearance;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the supporting member showing how the arms carrying the ornaments are mounted thereon;
Figure 3 is a horizontal section along the line 33, Figure 1, showing the construction.
Referring to the above-mentioned drawings, the invention includes a vertical supporting member 10. A plurality of arms 12 having eyes 13 in their inner ends are slidably and rotatably mounted on the supporting member 10. Ornaments 14: are fixed to the outer ends of the arms 12. Fixed to the lower end of the supporting member 10 is a member 11, serving to prevent the arms from sliding oif the supporting member 10 and which harmonizes with the ornaments 14 carried by the arms 12. The arms 12 are of varying lengths so as to support the different ornaments 14 at varying distances from the supporting member 10.
In constructing a cluster, the supporting member 10 has a plurality of arms 12 slidably and rotatably mounted thereon. These Serial No. 620,493.
arms 12 are of varying lengths and if it is desired to construct a cluster similar to that shown in Figure 1, the shortest arm will be placed at the bottom and then arms of gradually increasing length are mounted on the support until the greatest width desired is reached. In the cluster shown in Figure 1 a for; shorter arms are mounted on the support after the maximum width has been reached so as to eliminate the unsightly appeuruuce that would be presented by the long arms. Au ornament 15 having an opening extending through it is then slidably mounted on the support and seats on the short arms at the top of the cluster, covering them from view. After the ornaments have been positioned to form the desired shape of cluster, the top of the support is bent forming an eye 16, looking the ornament 15 in position. By making various arrangements of the arms 12 on the support 10 great numbers of different designs of clusters may be accomplished. The cluster may be made to simulate anything from natural. objects to fantastic designs that may occur to the designer.
Clusters constructed according to the above description may be used for a variety of purposes. They would serve for mounting on novelty chains, cordeliers, cord chains, earrings, bracelets, hatpins, etc. In some cases they might prove very valuable in ornamenting dresses, hats and the like. From the above it is evident that they might be put to a great many uses in preparing articles of commerce.
I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departing from the Spirit 0 the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Claims.
1. A device of the character described, comprising a vertical member, a plurality of arms rotatably mounted on the vertical memher, and ornaments carried by said arms.
2. A device of the character described, comprising an anchor member, ornaments carried by arms rotatably mounted on the anchor member so that the ornaments may be set in different relative positions to one another to form clusters.
3. A device of the character described,'
comprising an anchor member, ornaments carried by arms of various lengths rotatably mounted on said anchor member so that the ornaments may be set in different relative.
positions to form clusters.
4. A device of the character described, comprising an anchor member, arms slidably and rotatably mounted on the anchor member, ornaments carried by said arms, the slidably and rotatably mounted arms allowing ornaments to be placed in diflerent relatime positions to form clusters.
5. A device of the character described, comprisin a vertical member, a plurality of arms slida ly and rotatably mounted on the vertical member, said arms carrying ornaments which may be set in different relative positions to form clusters.
6. A device of the character described, comprising a vertical member, a plurality of arms of varying lengths slidably and rotatably 'mounted on the vertical member, and ornaments carried by the arms, said ornaments abutting against one another forming clusters of various shapes.
A cluster of the character described, comprisin a vertical member, a plurality of arms 0 varying lengths slidably and rotatably mounted on the vertical member, ornaments carried by said arms, means mounted on the lower end of said vertical member harmonizing with the ornaments and serving to support said arms on the vertical member, and means slidably mounted on the upper end of the vertical member for retaining the arms on the vertical member.
8. A device of the character described, comprising a vertical member, ornaments for forming a cluster about the vertical member, and a plurality of arms of varying lengths slidably and rotatably mounted on the vertical member, supporting said ornaments at different distances from the vertical member to form the cluster.
9. A device of the character described, comprising a supporting member, arms having eyes formed therein into which the supporting member may be projected so that the arms are slidably and rotatably mounted on the supporting member, and ornaments carried by said arms and abutting together forming clusters.
10. A device of the character described, comprising a supporting member, a plurality of arms having eyes formed therein through Which the supporting member may be projected to slidably and rotatably mount the arms on the support, ornaments carried by the arms, said arms being of varying lengths serving to support the ornaments at different distances from the supporting member and allowing them to abut to form clusters.
