N. HANSON PROTECTOR FOR CHAIN LINKS AND THE LIKE Filed may 15. 1925 Fatented Mar. ll, 1924,
NICK HANSON, OF PRESCOTT, XVASl-IINGTON.
PROTECTOR FOR CHAIN LINKS ANT THE Application filed IE-Zay 15,
To all 21:71 0722 2 25 may concern:
Be it known that NICK HANsoN, a ,citiVen of the United States, residing at Prescott, in the county of l Valla lValla and State of ll ashington, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Protectors for Chain Links and the like, or" which the following is a specification.
In carrying out the present invention it is my purpose to provide a protector that is adapted for use in conjunction with. chain links, eye bolts, single and double tree irons, center clips and analogous articles, whereby these articles are prevented from becoming entirely disrupted through wear, thereby necessitating replacement.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a protector for use in combination with the above articles when certain portions have become worn, this protector being of such a nature as to be readily positioned upon the article and adapted to take up the wear, that would otherwise be occasioned upon the article itself due to the contact and rubbing or other chain links, eye bolts, etc.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a protector that may be manufactured and marketed at extremely small cost and one that may be applied in simple and expeditious manner to chain links, eye bolts, etc. i
In the drawings wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a top plan view of a chain link, equipped with my protector,
Figure 2 is a detailed section taken substantially on the line 22 of Figure 1,
Figure 8 is an end elevation of a chain link equipped with the protector, and
Figure 4; is an enlarged perspective of the protector per se and before being applied to the chain link, eye bolt, or similar articles.
Referring to the drawing in detail 5 in- 1923. Serial 150. 639,665.
dicates a conventional form of chain link and it is well known to those skilled in the art that chain links or: this type become after a certain length of time, considerably worn at their opposite ends and it otten times happens that when an unusual amount of tension is applied to such a link, one end of the same will become disrupted, which will sometimes result in considerable damage.
In an effort to overcome this objection my protector designated 6, is adapted for position upon one or both ends 01" said chain link whereby the wear occasioned by a connected link or eye bolt will be taken up by the protector and thereby substantially increase the life of the link.
This protector 6 constitutes a strip of suitable metal 7 that has one end pointed at 8 and is bifurcated at its opposite end as at 9. This protector is adapted to be bent around the chain link in such a manner as to position the pointed end 8 between the legs constituting the yoked end of the protector 'n the manner shown in Figure 3.
Although l have shown and described my protector as being associated with a particular form 01"? chain link it is nevertheless to be understood that similar results will be procured by using this protector in con unction with the well known form of circular link and other analogous articles as above set forth.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and wish to secure by Metters-Patent is In combination with a link element, a metallic plate formed with a pointed and yoked end, said metallic plate adapted to be positioned around said link at a desirable point thereon and in such a manner to engage said pointed end between the legs constituting said yoked end.
In testimony whereof I afiii: my signatiu'e.
