P. STEFAN WINDOWPANE FASTENER Filed Feb. 26. 1925 M jfl? i y I 9 ll/ 31a/venice Patented Man lll, IQZd.
PHILIP STEFAN, OF MOUNDSVILLE, 'WEST VIRGINIA.
WINDOWPANE FASTENER.
Application filed February 26, 1923. Serial No. 621,450.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, rrrnrr STEFAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at lf/Ioundsville, in the county of Marshall and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VV'indowpane Fasteners, of which the following is a specialisation.
The primary object of my said invention is the provision of such a window pane fastener that is a substantial improvement over the usual means of fastening window panes within their sashes, these means generally consisting in the application of putty to the edges of the window pane, my fastener being characterized by its simplicity of construction, inexpensiveness of manufacture, ease of application and removal to and from the window sashes.
In the drawing Figure l is a fragmentary elevation of one corner of a window sash showing the window pane maintained therein through the instrumentality of my improved fastener.
Figure 2 is a detailed cross sectional view upon the line 2&2 of Figure l and Figure 3 is a perspective of one of the fastener strips comprised in my invention.
lteferring to the drawing in detail, A designates a usual window sash and B the glass pane for the sash,
My improved fastener constitutes the provision of plurality of preformed rubber strips 5 of any length desirable and being preferably triangular shaped in cross section as more clearly shown in Figures 2 and 3. My fastener further contemplates the provision of four corner strips 6 also of rubber and being likewise triangular in, cross section. Each of the strips 5 and 6 are formed with any number of spaced nail or tacl: receiving openings 7, and in applyg these strips for securing the window e ne B in position upon the sash A, the said strips are applied to the edges of the pane and abut against the usual shoulder a of the window sash, the inner face of these strips being preferably glued to the said window pane as well as to the said shoulderl a of the sash. As a further means for retaining these strips 5 and 6 in position, nails or tacks 8 are engaged through the said openings 7 and are forcibly driven in the sash A as clearly shown in Figure 2.
In view of the above description, it will be at once apparent that I have provided a highly improved means for maintaining window panes within their sashes, this means being of such a nature as to be applied in an expeditious manner and as easily removed when the window pane becomes broken or whenever it is desirable to place a new glass pane within the sash.
Although I have herein shown and described my improved window pane fastener as comprising a series of preformed strips of rubber of a particular shape, it is nevertheless to be understood that other material, as well as other shapes of the strips may be used without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A window pane fastener including corner sections formed of angularly arranged portions of molded rubber triangular in cross section, molded rubber strips of triangular cross section adapted for association with said corner sections, and means for applying said corner sections and strips to a window frame whereby the corner strips are adapted to be first placed in position and secured to said frame for holding a pane in place and the strips afterward applied to the frame for holding the same so that the ends of the strips will abut the ends of the corner sections, said strips being adapted for cutting to various lengths for this purpose.
In testimony whereof I aiiX my signature.
PHILIP STEFAN.
